The joys of being Canadian

Don't get me wrong i love being Canadian. BUT!!! I ordered a blower package from Jannetty racing, came in four boxes. No duty or brokerage at the door, but just got 4 invoices for them. Total of 715$ Canadian in duty and brokerage! I already paid a lot for shipping in the first place! Man we get raped hard for parts crossing the boarder!!!

Next time tell them that you will do the p/u at UPS... They(UPS) will give you a paper to go to the Customs & you pay the taxes ONLY no other fees.

Is that $715 separate from the taxes?

Auto parts made in the states should be exempt from duty. I now drive across the border to pick up any shipments from a shipping centre to avoid brockerage.

Fed Ex is the worst, I always check before buying out of the states to ensure its not FedEx always seem to get charged way more duty and taxes

I used FedEx for shipping up here recently for headers, full exhaust, and some misc. parts and was charged around $150 for everything including brokerage fees. I know they charge based on value though, so it kinda doesn't surprise me on the $715 charge given what you bought. FedEx is generally more expensive, but on my order for some reason was extremely cheaper.

Fed Ex and UPS are the worst for duty charges. I always ask to have stuff shipped via USPS which goes through Canada Post. Might take an extra day or two to get here to Fort McMurray, but worth it when not having to pay the duty charges.

And another thing I never ask for here is express delivery. Does not happen here because things go through Edmonton first then get driven up the highway. So depending on the time it gets to Edmonton it might not get up the highway for the next day.

i have heard of a lot of places just over the border that offer parcel pick up for Canadians with minimal charges......my father-in-law gets stuff all the time shipped to these places, and some even offer to repackage stuff and send it as a gift or labelled at the minimum price for stuff to be shipped without duties and brokerage fees.....we use a few places in buffalo, where the old lady shops about once a month and picks up all the stuff.....shitty luck about your charges though.....

I think UPS is worse than Fedex when it comes to excessive brokerage charges. I'm sure half that bill is tax. I'm surprised you paid any duty. The parts your describing would likely be assembled in the USA so they should be exempt.

Thinking the majority of the $715 is HST. Not sure which blower package but most run between $6000 & $7000, so depending what province ur in 13% -15%?
