Very very bad idea to have tap shift active in D. Who decided to change things at GM? Bad idea.
You can very easily accidentally hit the tap shifts when driving. It should not be active in all modes. |

Break off the paddles, but in a controlled manner such that one or both isn't stuck in shift mode

2010's only works in M others work in D or M. M holds the gears longer and shifts more aggressivly shifting between D & M at any time is acceptable as well as shifting manually. The controler wont let you screw the trans up. There is no mechanical linkage for any of this its all electronic and the display will read shift denied if it does not like what you try. Read your manuals its all in there.
2011 manual Manual Mode Tap Shift Back of Steering Wheel Tap Shift allows the driver to manually control the automatic transmission. To use Tap Shift, the shift lever must be in M(Manual Mode). Vehicles with this feature have indicators on the steering wheel. The controls are on the back of the steering wheel. Tap the left control to downshift, and the right control to upshift. A Driver Information Center (DIC) message indicates the gear the vehicle is in. See Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 5 ‑26.
When in Tap Shift mode with a accelerationV8 model, the driver can exit Tap Shift by holding the right (upshift) control for two seconds. The transmission will return to automatic shifting. On V8 models, the driver may choose to briefly enter Tap Shift mode while in D (Drive). Tapping either the upshift or downshift control will place the transmission in Tap Shift mode. The driver may then exit Tap Shift mode by holding the upshift control for two seconds. The system will return to automatic shifting after 10 seconds of cruising at a steady speed, or when the vehicle comes to a stop. While using the Tap Shift feature, the vehicle will have firmer, quicker shifting for increased performance. The driver may use this for sport driving or when climbing or descending hills, to stay in gear longer, or to downshift for more power or engine braking. The transmission will only allow you to shift into gears appropriate for the vehicle speed and engine revolutions per minute (rpm). The transmission will not automatically shift to the next higher gear if the engine rpm is too high. If shifting is prevented for any reason, the message SHIFT DENIED will appear in the DIC, indicating that the transmission has not shifted gears. While in the Tap Shift mode, the transmission will not automatically downshift on hard

so if moving from D to M doesnt hurt anything theres zero reason to have it active in D...
And yes the HUD shows it in M1 or whatever when you do it. First time I did it turning I thought the car was tanking, I turned and hiot the gas, and it just stuttered a little down the street. |

I like being able to shift with the paddles when in D. It helps because you can anticipate a passing maneuver and shift the tranny just before you pull out to pass. No time delay then from floor boarding and getting the auto downshift. Makes passing faster.
Anyway using the paddle in D it is just temporary, it will automatically return to D after a few seconds anyway.

I have owned my car for over two years, and I have yet to hit the paddles on, "accident"
I love the paddles when I feel sporty on the street.. Oops that's the break pedal, not the gas pedal. Sorry I don't see how you guys are doing this..

Yes, you can shift from D to N, just don't go to R.

Ah that's why. Your auto actually does not have full tap shift capability. I think i read that in M it only allows you to choose the top gear it will shift into. It will still shift automatically up to the gear you have selected. But I think it can be downshifted if it is in the gear selected. It will also not allow shifting manually in D.
