completely new to sound.. questions

Alright, so the stock sound system for the camaro is not bad... But it could be better! So I am wanting to get a lot better sound. But truthfully, I have no idea how to do this. I know to buy subs and stuff but do I install it? does someone else? what else do I buy? Just general questions.

So, what should I buy to improve the sound? Under 1,000$? WHat kind of subs?

If you are new and want it easy, inexpensive and nice, hit up steve at ********. I think all your needs will be met.

If not then start searching.

Cheers

Well, subs will give you more bass, but it sounds like you just want the audio to be a bit cleaner and crisper (is that a word?) so I would recommend upgrading the speakers and possibly replacing the stock Boston Acoustics amp with an aftermarket before you add a sub.

It really just depends on what you listen to and how you want the audio to sound.

i know i'll get flamed - but the factory MTX subs w/ 200 watt amp is DESIGNED to BALANCE out the Boston Acoustic system. 200 watts doesn't sound like much, but at the impeadance level it runs it's comparible to a 400 watt amp. it's $780 shipped thru gmpartsdirect.com. little pricey i think, but i've read 6 folks reviews and they ALL raved about it.

your dealer can install it and not only will it not void ur warranty, it will be covered by ur 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty.

if you don't have an SS and the Boston Accoustic system, you need lots more than subs.

my opinion........

Well what do you want? Improved sound or bass? What is your end goal?

Bass. More than anything. Nothing makes me smile more in my car than hearing the stock bass. I just can't imagine my reaction to an after market system.

If you like the audio quality and just want some more thump, then Steve@******** is the guy you want to talk to. They make a great drop-in sub box that fits most medium-level subwoofers and tucks into the corner of your trunk. They also provide some excellent step-by-step instructions so it's a pretty straightforward approach for someone new to the game.

Do some searching for the ******** boxes and you'll get a bunch of information

The only thing you'll get flamed for is that statment. 200 watts is 200 watts, regardless of what impedance it generates it. Meaning a 200 wrms @ 4ohm amp is the same as a 200wrms @ 2ohm, only difference is the 4 ohm amp will be easier on your car.

Impedance is only used to match subs to power supply to get the most out of the power suplly, safely. What does that mean? Take the 200 wrms @ 4ohm example, throw a 2 ohm load on it. In theory, if you have the current to keep it happy, it will develop 400 wrms. At what cost? Again, higher current draw, excessive heat in the power supply and possibly faliure.

Impedance does not alter how an amp sounds like it's making power, it will change how an amp makes it power.

What? Seriously? If that was the case, wouldn't the drop in factory system be JL and not MTX? They do indeed invest R & D for their stealthboxes and such, and their products are good. Yet, too some, like myself, they are overpriced, underperforming being sold on their name only to fanboys products. There are products out there that outperform them, for less money and are just as durable, but you won't have JL written anywhere on it. BTW, I haven't heard a Stealthbox I like yet, and you pay a pretty penny for them!
