Don't worry about a catch can, it is all hype.
It is like people selling you gold coins, telling you the American Dollar ($) is worthless. Interestingly, they take your $$ to buy said gold coins.... |

Its not hype if it does what they say it does: keeps oil out of the intake. The RX can and the EE do that well. I have had both and now am running the RX monster can. In 1300 HARD miles, it had about a tablespoon of oil in it.

It is not hype for a direct injection engine to have a catch can. The auto companies don't need to put one on for cost and maintenance. But the person looking for the best they can out of their little engine it is a GREAT investment. It helps prevent knock (from the ingested oil). Keeps the oil off the valves (which the fuel usually does, but being DI, that won’t happen). Everyone has an opinion, you are certainly entitled to yours. ME, I will keep my can on and remove the ounce per thousand miles.

Catch cans work, do not listen to trolls saying they do not. 1000 miles on a new 2013 LS3 and had a teaspoon worth. That crap goes into your intake and causes carbon build up on valves and possible detonation which all lead to more engine wear and less performance.

Now that said, most catchcans sold as a solution are pretty worthless so it is important to get one of the proven good few available. |
