Buyers wanting a hybrid Saturn Vue wagon will have two choices later this year: mild or full hybrid.

The 2009 Vue Green Line 2 Mode mates a direct-injection, 3.6-liter V6 with a front-drive transmission that houses two 55-kilowatt electric motors.

That setup lets the Vue 2 Mode run in electric-only mode at low speeds and reverse. It also has fuel shutoff during deceleration and regenerative braking. GM says this hybrid Vue will get 50 percent better fuel economy than its nonhybrid counterpart, with a range of 500 miles on a full tank.

Oh, and it will run from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and can tow up to 3,500 pounds, GM says. The Vue Green Line 2 Mode goes on sale late this year.

The current Vue Green Line uses a 2.4-liter inline-four equipped with a starter generator to save fuel by using stop/start mode at idle, and it has regenerative braking. But it has no electric-only mode. This system is also used in the Saturn Aura.

Aside from the hybrid system, GM took further steps to improve the Vue 2 Mode's efficiency with lightweight aluminum wheels, low-rolling resistance tires and an electric power-steering system.

To cope with the change in weight distribution, Saturn retuned the Vue's suspension with revised springs, stabilizer bar and shock absorbers.

I can't even get 500 miles out of my Cobalt. If I'm lucky I'll grab 300. I mean - Wow. This dual-mode Hybrid stuff is really impressive.
50% better than the non-hybrid 3.6 would be approx 24 city/34.5 Highway. (Just a complete guess, because I don't think the dual-mode helps alot during highway cruising, so it could only mean 50% city economy, BUT the numbers are out there.

I can get 400 from my Cobalt when I'm careful. But yeah, that thing sounds pretty class leading. GM is really rocking out with this two-mode thing. They're starting big on profitable vehicles, then once the cost comes down moving it to cheaper vehicles. Brilliant strategy, and the cars getting it first are the ones that need it most. If GM keeps this up, the new CAFE regs shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Keep it up GM!

Wow...500 miles! That's pretty good. My wife says she'll take one.

I can get 340 miles from my SS. I'm sure I can get more, but it sure is hard not stepping on that accelerator.

Thats about the same mileage as our 1998 Saturn SL2, which weighs a mere 2300 lbs and had a max of 124 hp from the factory (its amusing tring to accelerate with 5 people in it and the trunk full of stuff)

If a saturn can get a Caddy engine this year, then it should be availible in 2010 model Chevys.

thats surprising Dragon... i've gotten 450 out of my cavalier before, but that was all highway miles too... i can get 300 easily in city traffic though... might be because i have a 5 speed... not sure but having a 15 gallon tank that only fills up to about 10-13 gallons is annoying... i hope i get about the same mileage i'm getting now in this V6... that's be amazing... *faint*
