I would rather have a modern turbo 4 than any 305 V8 that Chevy ever produced. Although 305s do make good boat anchors.

A nice turbo 4 would be fine by me (turbo 6 would have been sick though ), but to echo what others have said - it wouldn't work in a car similar in weight/design to the Gen5. If they let the design stray too far, they'll lose customers. If they don't change it enough, they won't gain any customers. Not exactly win/win. I don't envy engineers! I like NA cars, but wouldn't turn my nose up to a tried and tested turbo like the 2.0T running in the CTS and Malibu. Unfortunately it sounds like GM is already planning on getting every little bit from the 2.0T at stock, so a tune alone won't yield much. I don't think mods will get as much as some are suggesting above. That doesn't mean the engine won't work, just means the ceiling isn't as high as some would have you believe. |

Well, for a few examples... Mercedes has a 2.0T that comes factory with 360hp and 332ftlbs, and on of the tuning companies for Mercedes has a canned tune that adds 50hp and 60ftlbs on top of the already impressive output. And every one of Ford's ecoboost engines has a tune package that adds a good bit of power (I forget horsepower, but usually 50-100ftlbs).
An I4T with a 3" downpipe split to dual 2.5" outlets, an intake and a good tune can hurdle 400hp and maintain its awesome gas mileage. (Also the 2.0T in the Cadillacs and Malibu has already been tuned for an average of 50hp and 50ftlbs stock by one company whom I again forget, and around 80whp by IPF) http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...rades-ats.html

Exactly. The limiting factor is fueling, nothing more.
I actually think I heard a local SRT4 Neon that had dual 2.5" outlets... man, that thing sounded big.

Well 50hp/tq would be good with stock parts. 71-82 seems lofty though (?) without additional improvements. Hopefully we're about to find out in a year or so.

Check this out... http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ile-times.html
Very minimal mods and this guy is running 12.7's @ 107-109mph in a 2.0 turbo ATS auto... I'd take a turbo 4 cyl camaro over the v6 in a heartbeat |

I love the idea. This will be the SRT neon all over again....except without the "neon" look, affordable car that with some time and research can be a solid car.

I absolutely love 4 banger turbos, I just think they don't belong in a muscle car. I know there's no fighting it but nothing puts a bigger smile on your face than getting in a good classic muscle car
Before the purchase I was going to get a mazdaspeed3, hell of a little beast, but a little AWD rumor for next year made me wait and now they discontinued the MS3. But as long as the Camaro loses some weight, a 4 cyl turbo will do great. Camaro V6 0-60: 6 seconds, quarter mile: 14.3 seconds MS3 0-60: 5.3 seconds, quarter mile: 13.8 seconds I get scared every time a cute little hatch pulls next to me at a stop light! Really need to get some twins |
