3D printer

I know this isn't "Z" related but this is so cool I thought I would pass it along. Jay Leno has one to make parts for his cars so this is kinda car related.
Just think of the possibilities.

Let me just say I'd have a ZL1 in ever color, LOL!!! I wonder how much that thing, and the resin, cost... Okay - I bet I could buy a ZL1 in every color before paying for that printer, lol.

you could go for a cheaper version for roughly $1300. --> http://www.makerbot.com/
Nowhere near the industrial quality but if you want to play around it might be something to look at...

this one staks molten plastic string rather than a laser that cures a powder...

.

Cool stuff, and as long as you don't have to exceed the strength, durability, or other characteristics of the formed resin, your part is good to go.

We use a 3d printer to rapid prototype most of our parts before they hit the machine shop floor. It is very useful. We have used it to test CAI tubes on cars. Done full dyno runs with them. Very high tech stuff for sure. A true manufacturing company is always trying to be on the cutting edge of producing high quality products. It gets used from anything like DOD govt work to simple washers. We can actually print an rod end where the bearing will be able to spin on the end. If i get some time ill post up pictures of parts that we have done.

I have a customer that is an engineering firm. They do prototyping and they have I think 2 or 3 of these printers. I am still blown away at how it does this stuff, and even the moving parts.

The owner was a design engineer at Chevrolet for a while.

Rally cool.
