Oh, and the majority of automakers are building their factory stereos in such a way that you can't just run out and buy a regular old head unit, toss it in your new vehicle, and expect it to fit.

Personally, I'd do what The Blue said and pick up one of the JL units. There's a lot of other newer models from other manufacturers as well....check out Crutchfield for better ideas. They carry 4 or 5 types.

Again, you can go w/ the $20 in line jack like I did for your stereo. Main reason?

Well, $$$ for one, but more importantly you retain the stock look of your factory unit....telling all would be car burglars and theives that you DON'T have any aftermarket expensive goodies in your ride. You'd never be able to tell by looking in my window at my factory head unit that I've got some JL goodies in there. And my stereo sounds freakin' great!

I'm not sure which items you are looking to do, but the only items I know to be 100% not to void the warrenty would be from GM Accessories.

Nothing voids your warranty unless it is the sole or primary reason something else breaks. If that is the case, then GM has to prove that your part broke another part on your vehicle. Failure to do this is a violation of your rights as a consumer, allowing you to take GM or the dealership to court.

The law I am citing is called the Magnuson-Moss Act. Every car modifier should be familiar with this law.

Not what I meant........Even if the part you bought from GM Accessories is the cause of the problem it still will not void the warranty.

Awesome! Didn't know they made that. JL makes some great stuff, although they are quite expensive.

Still can't decide if I'll lease or buy.. just have to wait till all the info comes out of course.

I'll take one either way though!

Violating the Factory Warranty

I know that modding your car has a nasty habit of also violating the factory warranty, but are there any types of mods that do not violate the warranty? Also, who's planning on knowingly violating their warranty, and flat out doesn't care? Honestly, if headers, mufflers, and a short ram intake (with no sensors disconnected - just adapted) will violate my warranty, I'll probably just say screw it and do it anyway.

P.S. - then again, if mufflers only *won't* violate the warranty, maybe I'll just skip the headers and then bolt the stock intake back on if I need to take it in for repairs...

I'm debating that very question. I want to mod my Cobalt now, but since I'll be using it as a daily driver for 4ish more years, keeping the remaining 3 years of my warranty intact is kinda important. If, when I get my Camaro, I won't need a reliable daily driver (if I can vanpool/take public transportation to work, for example) then I won't care about the warranty as much.

Any word from somebody who works at a chevy dealership and has firsthand experience? Maybe I can find a copy of the warranty terms online somewhere...

Man, after having the 78' T/A I had that had a rusted out gas tank, I realized the importance of a warranty. Albeit, yes, that is a little irrational on my part being that it was a 30 year old car, it scared the HELL out of me from buying a used car ever again, I don't know why.

I DID plan on putting a mild cam in my Camaro for that awesome lope, but screw it if it voids the warranty. I like to know that if my car breaks down, I can hand the keys to the dealer and say "your problem, boys, I'll be back tomorrow."

Appearance mods better not freakin' void it, because I want it to look like my sig REEEAL bad. :\ As for the sound, hopefully they'll at least put up with headers and an exhaust without voiding it. I mean really, how often in the span of a warranty does the exhaust need work unless it was bottomed out?

I dont think appearance mods would void anything, i think the warranty is a powertrain warranty.

Well, there are multiple sections of the warranty - theres the PT, rust/body, and limited (just about everything else). The rust and body 100k/6yr part might be voided by appearance mods not done by a dealer/offered through chevy. Luckily for me, all the appearance mods I want are from the accessories photos.
- Xanthos

P.S. - I think this is correct, but I've never actually bought a new car before, just newer used cars, so I don't know for 100%.
