Will I pay sticker for a gen 5? Dealers say so.

I'm in the market for a new car and really like the new camaro. Anyway, the 2 dealerships in my area (the huge ones) would not budge one cent off sticker. They said there is so much demand for even the 2010s you have to pay sticker or no car. Is there any truth to this? They just told me to leave when I tried to negotiate. If not, how much wiggle room is there?

I had to laugh at some of the dealer added options... $1,500 for a special clear coat they spray on the car to stop the sun from dulling the paint. $1,000 for a special chemical the hoses are dipped in to prevent them from rotting. Want a flasher 3rd tail light to prevent rear end collissions, that'll set you back $400 (I think they sell flasher relays at Pep Boys for $0.50).

i'm sure any dealer would love to get the 2010's off their lot... and everyone is looking forward to 2012 already. the "demand" for the 5th gen dropped once everyone's orders were filled, and the dealers were holding stock on their lots.

you can definitely find 2010's below msrp

if your two local dealers have Camaro's sitting on their lot, then the demand isn't as high as they suggest.

Our dealers here have tons of them on the lots. Try another dealer, or try the ones that are advertising on our sites here. The ones that post here seem to get good reviews.

Isn't GM having their clearance event in your area? Maybe those dealers made a pact not to undersell each other. Must be other dealerships around if it even means a bit of a drive? Keep calling around!

Camaro sales have slowed down. They should be begging you to buy a car. I bought mine for $2300 off the sticker 8 months ago.

The 2010's are marked down about $3,000 where I bought mine. Around the corner from where I work, they have about 30 of them sitting on the lot, lonely and depressed. So I don't think demand it all that great, especially with the 2011's around the corner with some decent upgrades.

Yeah, add-ons are a laugh a minute. $750 for add on rally stripes?

Sounds like you might have to make a road trip when you buy one. I just found out that I can pick any 2011 Camaro up for $1200 off sticker here in a small town, this particular makes most of their money on service, they really aren't pushing their cars either, ya they are selling but it seems like they still want to take care of their customers.
Get on the internet and price around, if you go to Chevy.com and go to the Camaro page and click build your own then they will prompt you to put in a zip code and will locate all the deals in that area and availability.
Basically what I tell them when they wont come down on the price is that I will just go where they WILL be willing to negotiate with me and usually they will have a change of heart, after all they DO really want to sell cars, and if you go elsewhere then that is like them giving away money.

Special chemical treatments, special coatings, $400 for a taillight, full sticker for remaining 2010s when 2011's are sitting on lots, telling you to leave for attempting to negotiate....?

I say RUN FROM THIS DEALER AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

As for how much wiggle room there should be, try this:

I paid less then dealer cost for mine. Used ones they were selling were actually higher then brand new as they have more to work with on brand new while used they have a profit margin to keep. Got to remember, ever car sold there is always a kick back from the manufacture to the dealer. They may sell it for a few grand less then dealer cost but they make that back with the kickback they get later from GM.

croos the border come to NJ, plenty of dealers here selling them at fair pricing. tow on route 9 in NJ, Pinebelt Chevy and Oasis Chevy. Try internet sales first on them.
