If You Don't Use Your Turn Signals ...

... are you stupid, lazy or inconsiderate?

I have developed the habit, and that is really what it is, to use them all the time. As I think of changing lanes or turning I exert about 1 ounce of effort and press that signal lever under your left hand. Usually is it just my pinky. It doesn't take much.

Are you stupid if you don't use them? Darn .. it lets other drivers know your intentions. What's that? You don't know HOW to use them?

Are you lazy? About an ounce of effort. Just do it! C'mon folks.

Are you inconsiderate? I can't count how many times I am waiting at an intersection and the driver to my left just turns. Meanwhile I am still there waiting. Crystal balls are not standard equipment in Camaros.

I've heard - "I didn't see anyone". Darn! Unless you have magic senses THAT is when you need them most - when YOU didn't see the other guy. I've been out cycling and folks turn right in front of me as I'm going 30MPH, no signal. Lane changes where the person just seems to be lost.

Here is a high note. I'm driving my RS on a 4 lane road and I come up to a traffic signal while in the right lane. It changes to red just as I get up to it. I glance in my rear-view and closely behind me is an Audi with the right turn signal on. I check the left mirror and and no one is in the left lane. Quickly I change over to the left lane (signaling first of course . The driver makes her right on red but not before giving me a big thumbs up for my maneuver.

Does anyone remember the scene from "Vanishing Point" (1972) where the Challenger driver signals to return to the road from the median? That's me.

It's weird and it is a habit. I signal on streets and highways and late at night when no one else is on road. It just feels weird turning or changing lanes without signaling. Also it seems like I would be the one pulled over for not using a blinker

Come to S.Florida and you will rarely see a turn signal being used.People will shoot around you and once they are in front of you hit the brakes to make a turn and of course no signal.I once saw an out of state car with a sticker that said (use your f*#&ing turn signal).

I always signal.

Sometimes, however, you do have to live on the wild side and do a sneak attack lane change.

Let me explain. It's not uncommon to watch people put on their turn signal, and other people will close up the gap so the person no longer can safely change lanes, especially in rush hour traffic.

I've sometimes found it necessary to avoid this problem by turning on the signal, and going after one blink (and finishing the lane change before the second blink even happens).

I still consider that signalling

I signal lane changes on empty highways when making turns too. Good habit to have.

Ditto.

Another maneuver - some a$$ refuses to let you merge by giving you 12 feet room even though signals are on. Then I floor it on the ramp and I'm in front of everyone. I still signal though.

All the above. Never any excuse to NOT have the courtesy to use your turn signals.

What does it matter on the interstate? I don't cut people off and I give them plenty of room but I may or may not signal. Signaling won't change anything for either party - I'm coming over and they don't need to know it because I'm at a safe distance. On the flip side just because you signal doesn't mean you have the right of way to just wedge on in. So I signal when needed but not always. If I signal all the time but drive like an idiot is that better? Or if I put my hazards on and park at the front door of Target that makes it ok? That's my take. I'm always adapting to my situation, am aware of my surroundings, and act accordingly.

Drivers today in Virginia think they are optional. As well as when their lane ends, they think they can merge, with no signal nor consideration to who is next to them.

Freaking idiots.

(that's when I wish I had some old beat up truck)

I always signal. Even when no one is around. Not a toughy, just pull down or press up. Takes more effort to row my slush box

When driving my other car, I often forget I don't have this ingenious device. Admittedly I catch myself doing the single-click-with-one-blink lane change. Makes me look like an ass.
