'97 Camaro

My buddy has a 1997 Camaro Z28 SS with a 6 speed trans. We think the shifter knob is on backwards but aren't positive. We can't get the Knob to turn off and wondered if anyone can telll us how to remove it.
Thanks

...sounds stupid...but lefty loosey, righty tighty...That's how mine is threaded...and just about every other car I've ever driven is, too. If you haven't tried that...try it (though I'm sure you have tried it). Sometimes the shift knob can be extremely tight, so that coud be part of the problem. Try it

+2. You may have to put some channel locks on that hog.

is it the stock knob? or an aftermarket one? ive seen some with a small allen screw that holds it to the shaft, but wrap a rag around it and take some channel locks to it rotating counter clockwise looking from the top

Shifter

we're not sure if it's stock or not. The handle is short and straight up. I thought they were bolted on with a couple bolts but he said it's straight into tranny. the knob is leather and will not budge. I know it sounds stupid but we don't want to break it the car is suppose to be all original but this doesn't look right. Anyone have apic of one that you could post.?

I have a 97 camaro 5 speed... it is the base one (I don't think it's RS anyway) but the shifting knob has a leather cover on it (stock). Can take a pic if your interested.

I was just discussing the shift knobs on another forum and they say it takes some work to get them off.

I think my '95 T56 had some thread locker on the threads to lock it on; it may take some effort. Good luck.

FWIW; this isn't in the correct section
