2) I believe the cars are governed to 155 mph. If you remove the governor, the SS is power limited to something like 170 or 180 mph. But the maximum speed it could theoretically reach in 6th, given enough power, is well over 250 mph. To actually lower the gear limited top speed, you'd have to go and replace the stock gearing with something crazy like a 5.50:1 3) Don't race on the streets, take it to a track

It reduces speed if the top speed of the car is actually gear limited. The Camaro is aero-limited, so its not affected unless you do an ultra crazy swap, or are cranking out say twice as much power as stock. And besides that, you'd have to be hitting 180 mph on the streets, and I don't think that even the most reckless street racers do that.

what comes stock?
Thanks for this gear info. I don't know if I need to know it but I like knowing it.
Not planning on racing but I would like to take it to a track and see what I can get out of it just for fun. You have the speeds at different gear ratios in the original post. Pardone me please if this is already covered, but what is stock? I have the 2010 2SS. So I have the V8 and 6 speed manual transmission. How do i know what my gear ratio is? thanks |

gears
My head is hurting trying to read and decyhper the information out on the threads. Hope you guys can keep me from getting a major migraine.
I currently own a 2010 Camaro RS/SS L99 engine with an auto trans. modded a few parts. Running Maggie TVS-2300 magnacharger, dual fuel pump, 2800 Yanks Stall converter, Trans cooler, line-lock, Kooks 1/7/8 inch LT headers w HF cats, Corsa catback exhaust. Custom Forged Vossen 3 piece wheels, so running the 315x20 size wheels in the rear. Moved the oem rear wheels to the front. The car was dynoed at 540rwhp. Next month will be installing the DSS 9inch Conversion kit and wanted to know what gears would you recommend me to run. I will be installing the Strange center section, After the conversion kit is completed, we will be installing a LSX440 forged internals with a twin turbo for forced induction. we are hoping to get 1000+rwhp out of this combo. Car will mostly be a daily driver, with some scca races on the weekends. We lost the lease to the land the track was located at, so currently looking for a new home for a 1/4 mile track. I think the 4.11 would be digging ditches and not a good choice with this kind of power. Maybe a 3.7, 3.73, 3.9??? What gearing would you think be the best for me? Thanks, T az |

Hey guys, I am also looking at going with 3.91s with a M6, would you suspect the extra 250 rpms at 80mph in 6th gear would affect the highway mpg much? I would think the lower gears would actually increase the mpg around town due to less strain on the motor, but I am concerned with the highway mpg because I drive the camaro long distances more frequently than around town.
