So they say it’s a new Camaro, but this sounds fishy!

A coworker just stopped by my office to ask if I seen the Camaro sitting up at the Ford lot in town. I work in a very small town and there are maybe only two Camaro you see on a regular basis.

I say no and he proceeds to ask me if this sounds right. He states that the Camaro had 300 miles on it and the Ford dealership is saying that it’s a new untitled car.

Is it possible for a Ford dealership to have an untitled Chevy car sitting on its lot? And if so, why would it have 300 miles on it?

If you went and paid cash for a car, you would get a Certificate of Origin. That's basically a GM title. People who finance normally don't see this because they mail that to the finance or lien-holding company.

It's POSSIBLE, however unlikely, that the car is a demo, and yes, it may be untitled, but if it's been purchased by the Ford dealership, it's now a used car backed by the factory warranty for all intents and purposes as it has an "owner". What it's doing at the Ford dealership is anyone's guess. Probably used for comparing the Mustang/Camaro first hand to potential buyers? Don't know. Call and ask them.

Is it possible it was a demo at a Chevy dealer? can dealers even though different company's swap cars? I know all company's do this within there own but Chevy to Ford? I don't think it will be a "new" car, it probably had a title already.

I highly doubt it is new. Only a Chevy dealer can sell a new Chevy. So the car came through some dealer. That dealer would obviously want delivery credit for it, so most likely when they sold it to the Ford dealer they reported the sale to GM - starting the warranty. There is also the floor plan issue. The Chevy dealer probably did not own the car outright, most are on the finance complany's floor plan. Which takes a sale to remove and payoff, which get's reported...

I'd suspect the Ford dealer bought it, and a Chevy dealer sold it. In thier minds it is still new, a VIN check would tell the real story. See if you can get the VIN and post it here.

It could belong to the dealer's in house leasing co. At our GM dealership we often brought in new "off make" vehicles to lease.

Our Chevy dealership also owns Honda, etc, so it might be that the owner also has a Chevy dealership?

Where is this? What town and do you know the name of the dealership?

300 miles is pretty low miles though.

I just sent him a email to get the VIN if he goes up to town for lunch.

I tried to find the car on the dealership's website, but had no luck.

300 miles is a new car, titled or not. Don't let paperwork stand in the way. If he wants it buy it and have the time of your life in it!!!

That's just a Ford dealership trying to add a little class to their lot and hoping to sell a Ford to people who come in to look at the Camaro.

also sometimes dealers are too cheap to pay for shipping, so they drive it after buying it from another dealer..thus the mileage...it is new, but technically not since its been driven.
