I'm running General G-Max AS 03. Its an all season tire that does great in a wide range of driving conditions. I live in St. Louis and our temps swing drastacly. These tires do excellent in light snow too. GT is currently out of stock on the 275X40X20 based on other posts I've read. http://www.generaltire.com/tires/G-MAX-AS-03

Sounds like a nice tire, but too bad they don't make them in the sizes to fit the ZL1 yet.

Actually I found the 285's yesterday, and I only looked in one place so far...

So now I'm wondering the difference between the
Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Series II ($403 each) and the
Pirelli Winter 270 Sottozero Series II ($489 each)

Speed rating and tread compound. 240 is V rated(149mph), 270 is W rated(168mph) and has dual tread compound technology.

Winter Tires Available

Our Good Friend -- Aaron Link -- Engineer Extraordinare in Vehicle Dynamics (who you've seen behind the wheel of a few ZL1s on the test track - and is one of the men and women helping to do the 'magic' that you'll find in the ZL1 suspension) ... has sent me the following information to share with you.

Aaron writes:

Scott -

For customers who will want to install winter tires on their 2012 ZL1's for our current winter season, we recommend the following winter fitment (these will be the same recommendations for MY2013 that come out in the September 2012 bulletin):

Front tire: Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Series II, XL 285/35R20 104V. This is an OE winter fitment for the Porsche Panamera.

Rear tire: Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero, 305/35R20 104V This is an OE
winter fitment for the Ferrari 599 GTB Firoano.

For next winter, customers should plan to buy these snow tires in September 2012, as Pirelli usually builds their winter tires over the summer.

I had trouble locating these locally, so I called Rudy at TireRack, a Frequent contributor on the Wheel and Tire thread, and he can set you up. His direct dial phone number is found on that thread 877-522-8473 ext. 664

OK, my question is regarding just storing the car for the winter in an unheated storage locker.

When the ZL1's were first announced, it was mentioned somewhere that the OEM tires weren't supposed to be even STORED in temps below 20 F.

Now keep in mind this would be for a car in storage, and not driven at those temps.

Are the OEM tires ok to leave on the car (as long as it's not being drivemn) even if the outside temp hits 0 degrees F or should I remove the tires and store then inside the house for the winter and put something else on the car or leave the car on jackstands of some type for the winter.

I'd like to re-iterate this question.

Can we put on SS wheels/ tires for the winter?

I would also like to know. Or what others can you mount on the TSWs?

These are the tires we currently have on all of our CTF units.....thus, this is our recommendation.

Scott,
Do you know if 315s are too wide for the rear of the ZL1? Has anyone tried that you know of?
Thanks!

From one of the messages in the 'Stcky's' at the top of the forum.....

Tires
The Goodyear Eagle® F1 Supercar® Generation 2 (G:2) tires have been developed and optimized specifically for the ZL1 to yield outstanding handling while maintaining requisite street-tire performance for wet handling, tread wear, noise, mass and rolling resistance.

Tires Size: 285/35ZR20 summer (front) and 305/35ZR20 summer (rear)

• ZL1 Camaro summer-only tires tend to wear faster and are more susceptible to damage from road hazards or curb impact than standard profile tires.

• It is not recommended to use the high-performance summer tires when temperatures drop to approximately 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) or below.

• It is recommended these tires be stored indoors at temperatures above 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) when not in use.

• The ZL1 tires should not be rotated. They are corner specific by design.

• These tires are unique in their wear patterns. The outside shoulder may appear worn as compared to other tires.

It would be okay to store in a cold garage over winter, just do not drive on.

Yes you can bolt SS fitting wheels on your ZL1.
