Do a search on all the v6 to v8 upgrade posts and then you decide.

Auto V6 for something more towards a daily commuter.

Manual V8 for strictly a weekend play toy.

Factor in all that and pick a model based on your needs. I have a 60mile/day commute and I wanted something more economical than my supercharged V8 so I went with the 6 after an overnight test drive. Sometimes I wish I had the V8 for the fun factor though. Either way, I like the Camaro so much I'd rather have a base LS than no Camaro at all. I say if you're "on the fence" between the two, just get the 8 and be done with it. I'll say that I stress A LOT less over gas with my V6 Camaro than I do with my Lightning. The Lightning takes about $30 more to fill up and my seasonal trip to the MX race in upstate NY takes two fill ups in the Lightning and the V6 Camaro makes it there and back home with only one fill up with a quarter tank still. So it was a major gas saving for me and it's still a prideful car to own and looks great with the RS package. Love those 20 inch rims and halo hids... But I know a manual V8 would be so much fun as a strictly play toy vehicle.
I DD a LS3. I can get just as good if not better gas mileage as a v6 if I want. I say get the SS because chances are you will regret it if you get a v6

Can't speak for the LS3 guys but my L99 SS gets horrendous gas milage.
With the same driving habits as my L99, my 5.0 averages 1 point lower than my brother's V6 stang.

If the OP is a performance enthusiast, Id definitely recommend passing on the V6 and getting the V8, preferably the LS3!
If I were to do it all over again I would have gotten the 1LE. My L99 is nice and comfortable but a bit of a pig. My wife drives it most of the time and I ususally drive the Stang.

It's quicker than most of the cars out there, but it doesn't compare to the SS.

If you care about performance, get the SS. If you think that down the line, you'll wish you had a V8, get the SS. If you care enthusiastically about performance, get the 1LE. If you have to have a ZL1, you don't need us to tell you that.

The cost difference for fuel and maintenance between the LT and SS is not as much as you might think (A coworker and I have identical cars, except his an LT and mine is an SS. Our MPG is almost the same - and often I have better MPG. It depends on your commute and right foot.) The big difference is the up-front cost. Unless you are seriously stretching your budget, the fuel cost is not a big factor.

The mere fact that you are asking the question, suggests that you should strongly consider the SS.
Well said... If you already have a toy and want a nice daily driving camaro then get the v6. If your looking to mod for performance get the v8. I bought the v6 because i wanted the v6 i wanted low gas prices (87 octane) decent fuel economy. This is going to be my daily work horse and i didnt want to be spending a TON on mods to make it faster so the v6 was the way to go. I know if i would have got a v8 i would have started throwing money into mods. I think you want the V8 if your on the fence at all you probably want the SS.

Alright dude I'm going to be flat out blunt.

There is no way we can tell you whether or not the V6 or V8 would be the best purchase for you. We can advise you based on the information you give us and your lifestyle. Ultimately you're buying the car and need to be 100% content with it before doing so.

There is no "best" Camaro. There are countless people here who can afford V8s and got V6s because they wanted one. There are people here who purchased V6s and traded in later because they wanted a V8. There are people who jumped from V6 to ZL1 and SS to 1LE and even SS to V6. It depends on what made them happy. Both cars are powerful, the V8 is obviously more so, if you know you're desiring a V8 then get the V8. If you desire it but it isn't financially feasible then wait, save, and purchase it when your situation improves. As you stated you have a vehicle already.

The benefit of the doubt is in place here because I assume you want to be well informed on your decision, which is good. Ultimately though, it's time to take said information and analyze your wants/needs with it. A variety of things from travel, commute, gas budget, insurance budget, note budget etc. etc. will come into play.

Now that said, my personal opinion is this is a Camaro. You don't settle with a car like a Camaro. Get the V8 if you really want the V8 and can afford it.

My daily commuter is a Camaro 1le, manual v8...I wouldn't have it any other way.

Weekends are too short, enjoy your car the whole week.

Well thanks to all of you guys for your input. I will factor all costs and sit on it for a while until I've made a true decision.
