Awesome write up! Anyone know if the old filter drips too bad on the way out? Just wondering if I should lay some rags around the canister when I'm removing it...

Am I the only one who checks the dip stick AFTER the oil change?

if its too lose....it could leak......if you get it too tight, it could be hard to get off. Personally, I don't "TORQUE" mine, I just hand tighten it with a wrench, and I've never had a problem.

Just so ya know, look at the top of your filter housing. on its top, molded into it is the torque value, 25 Km which is 18.5 ft-lbs. So thats not real tight....just to get you a reference as how tight to get it.

I just want to ask if its worth the money to have full synthetic oil such as mobil 1 on a V6, I haven't changed my oil yet, and my camaro's agency is saying that only delphi is GM certified, so by not filling my Camaro with delphi I might void the warranty!! So I just want to know if having mobil 1 worth arguing my agency abt it? FYI, I must change my Oil every 6213 miles at the agency not to void the warranty. (It just feels right to me to change the oil after 1800 miles)

I spilled the crap out of my oil the first time. The drain plug is at an angle and it shot out almost horizontal when I removed the plug.
LOL Just fyi....

We only ever had a single incident that involved a motor replacement, which was attributed to a bad batch of filters with incorrectly machined threads (filter came loose while driving and yeah... that ended badly...) Did everything go exactly by the book 100% of the time? Definitely not, but I'd wager a guess that we were no worse than a dealer or any other shop. Oh, and about the whole looking up skirts through the grate thing? Totally true. |

Just changed my oil today using this write up. Made my life so much easier. If I hadn't had it, I would have found out half way through the process that I did not have the correct socket for the oil filter. Thank you much.
