not only do I wear driving gloves, I always wear a nomex suit (never know when you are gonna get in a wreck and catch fire) I also keep a full scuba setup in the back seat in case I end up in a river or some other body of water..

oh yeah and when I have the top down I always wear this to protect my face:

Do you laugh at him hysterically every time you see him put them on? Because I would.

Cool. May I also recommend that you carry a skydiving suit and parachute with you at all times in case you drive off the side of a mountain and have to bail out in mid air real quick.

I just bought some Motorcycle gloves 3 days ago. Leaving the cycle shop I put them on while in my car and it felt better. The glove are soft tight fitting leather and I notice the leather on leather gives me a good grip and allows me to turn the wheel with one hand...you know like on the old 60s and 70s cars. All I need to is push my palm against the wheel and turn. Can't do it with out a glove safely because a bare hand on leather is a bit slick and the wheel will slip. What I have decided to do next week is go back and get me a second pair 1 for M/C and a pair for driving. I am sold on driving gloves.

The only way to avoid wear and tear on the steering wheel is to not use it. Either drive only in one straight line, forward and reverse only, or... don't drive the car at all.
