best budget headers?

Hey curious what would be the best budget headers for around 800-1000 with converters? And what is the benefit of a pricier header? I know the coated ones last longer and do they also put out less heat?

The 2 biggest reasons some headers cost more are:

1) Where they are made. USA versus God knows where.

2) What they are made of. The better headers are made of 304 stainless. They are corrosion resistant and lighter without coating. Cheaper headers will use cheaper material that will corrode and they have to be coated. Like most things, you will get what you pay for but that doesn't mean you have to over pay.

There is a really good article getting ready to be posted on TheHorsePowerJunkies.com sometime this week about selecting headers. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up.

Don't go cheap. Go with KOOKS. Check out IPS motorsports. Give them a call and they can hook you up

or go with KOOKS from Maryland Speed.

Personally I would tell you to spend the extra money for the ceramic coating. Not for performance but for looks.

I got Doug Thorley tri Y long tubes for 508 and 35 shipping. Magnaflow high flow cats 75 ea. Ceramic coated inside and out. 1 3/4 inch but they way they scavenge exhause they are equal to a 4 1/4 collector. Plenty of exaust for my little 418 stroker with 700 plus rwhp. Fits into stock exhaust as well with no problems.

It's been speculated that OBX headers are made overseas but that has never been proven. There were no "made in China" stickers anywhere on my OBX headers, original box or instructions.

Regardless, OBX are the best best priced long-tube stainless steel headers out there for the 2010-2011 Camaro.

Not the cheapest of them all, but seem excellent for the money. Waiting for the mid-pipe to be available. I think they'll be coming with a 3" axleback later to finish it off.

My back up selection right now is BBK's that are coming out. You can use anythingauto.com 15% off coupon to get the silver ceramic coated version for $722 or full SS for $849. That's headers, cats, and x-pipe. My only reservation is they're 1.75", but I'm not sure it's a big difference for that 1/8".

There's also that XS Power system in the vendor classifieds. Full 3" header to tip for $850. I just prefer to have bolt in cats.

IMO, the only problem with these budget brands is they're all newer, so there is a bit of risk. I decided against OBX because by the time you add some Kooks cats, they're not really that inexpensive. (would pay a few hundred more for some Dynatech or Stainless Works).
