Ya, I know it sounds wierd to sound different, but I noticed it right away. It was explained to me that not all oils that are synthetic or even the same viscosity have the same density factors. So in theory, you could have more engine "noise" from one than the other. Typically resulting in hearing the lifters or stuff like that, but in this case it seemed to have changed the exhaust tone a bit. Not trying to sound like a dumbass, I know my way around cars enough to know what a dumb thing to say would be, but the sound is different. And as for my muffler bearings, they are fine. I have the guy down the street check them once a month and he only charges me $20.......LOL!

I use Shell Rotella T. It has all the zinc and phosphorus additives that they have been taking out of the oils used in light duty vehicles. It keeps heavy truck diesels with turbos pushing 30 PSI running for a million miles I figure it will do okay in a passenger car motor.

If you are in support of Shell Rotella for those reasons, have you considered the Mobil Delvac? That oil has exhaustive million mile stories. I have a few trucking miles under my belt.

Sure DelVac is a good oil. I haven't seen the analysis numbers on it. I have seen them on the Rotella and they are high end across the board for all wear additives. I assume they would be for DelVac as well but Rotella is a known quantity.

Good Point......Delvac was an oil that was a factory required use for the 60 series Detroit truck engine. So the history happened on its own, it wasnt that people chose that oil to use. Rotella is a chosen oil by more.

If your FYI is referring to the old wives tale of not being able to run conventional oil after running synthetic, that's 100% false.

Rotella, DelVac and Delo400 are all diesel oils and have much more zinc and phosphorus in them than regular passenger car oils now, which will lengthen cam/lifter life. But since they are conventional and not synthetic oils, they're much more likely to gum up and need to be changed much more often.

I used Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec in my 4th gens almost exclusively

I just got my 2SS in December and still have 8 free oil changes at the dealer with GMs synthetic, so I am going to save the $800 and get my changes on the dealer's dime.

Dupree878,

I change my oil every three months reguardless so I am not worried about it gumming up.

Point taken though.

You do realize places use items (like M1) based on who gives them the best deal right? It's all about sponsorship $ and less about actual quality.

Sure. Buts that's not to say M1 isn't good or a quality product.

What is it that you are suggesting is better?
