How can you Afford that?

I was just curious if that question ever comes up. I have had the car for about 4 days and have heard it about 5 times. They always ask isn't that car like $40,000 +? When I say $20,000 after trade in they are floored. My good friend just bought a Honda Civic for around the same price. With good negotiating, good credit, they really don't cost as much as someone would think.

Camaros are relatively priced. I remember years ago id see civics for 16k max.. now I've seen some at 26+... let alone I got a Tahoe in 07 for ~40k and a similarly equipped Tahoe now is 61k!

I think people have not looked around and seen how much the cost of transportation has risen

I got that all the time, especially since I'm young (21).

With trade-in, taxes, blah blah I financed $30,000. $4,000 more than what I financed for my 2012 Civic SI.

A good credit score can make the world of difference. Especially when getting a good interest rate. I talked them into lowering my interest rate by 1% which saved me around $35 every month in payments + less interest over the time on the loan.

And I tell them I work my ass off, though I work from home

My favorite one "Mommy and daddy bought you a new car?", or "Taking mom / dad's car out for a drive today?"

This. Comes up all the time at my age. Utilizing your credit and finances carefully as well as good planning can take you very far.

I would hope nobody that I know would ask me that at this stage in life. If they did, I'd come up with a smartass answer...something about being in sales in the street pharmaceuticals industry.

Happens to me all the time since I just turned 20 a month ago. Ive worked hard and have had a job for awhile now. I still played sports in school and I still have fun. I got my car 2 months ago for 30000 and financed 15000 by myself. Just work hard and you can get one

Mine was $37k sticker in 2009. Your car looks so nice, they think it is the top of the line model!!

I bought one of the most fully equipped SS's available back in 2010 and it was still cheaper than most of the 1/2 ton trucks on the lot. People ask how I can afford it? I tell them it's cheaper than their SUV was...

After all rebates and discounts, my 2014 2LT RS was $27,495. Most of my friends and family are blown away by how much "car" you get at that price. Leather, HUD, remote start, premium sound...luxury level stuff that you typically don't get at that price.

where the heck you get that at? With all my rebates and offers from GM. usaa and military discount I came nowhere close to that..

I get that a lot from my nosy-ass family.

"OMG How could you justify spending that much on a car?!?" from my Aunt who just forked over 38,000 for her Impala. The look on her face after I told her I only paid 31K and ordered it exactly the way I wanted it made me giggle.

Yeah a lot of people don't realize the price of the Camaro. I have had guys with F-250 King Ranch 4x4's call me high roller for driving my Camaro. I am like, you paid twice as much for that truck that has never been (or never will be) in 4 wheel drive!
