the downside is you get to keep your awesome switch-blade key.

If you actually knee the key and have an accident you can't sue GM.

I can't even knee the key if I tried, and I prefer my switchblade... so I'm ignoring it.

I do not have my letter but have thought about doing one key and not the other. I would like a normal key for daily use so I could have my home and work key all together. I find that with the switchblade style key it puts any additional keys too far out and over my leg. I do like the key on its own though, thus the two style approach.

There really isn't a downside as to function but if you keep it and happen to do what they are warning you about, well you're on your own.

I'm keeping mine as I can't even do what they claim when I'm trying.

Kept mine because I can't do remote start without it according to the dealer. Plus I tried damn near kickboxing the key out and only succeeded in bruising my knee and scaring myself that I actually DID break the ignition.

Downsides are someone you love is killed in the unlikely event that what GM claims can happen. For that reason I am doing the recall.

If you don't attach keys to your fob, your odds of being injured in the hypothetical ignition accident are about the same as your odds of being hit by a meteor. If you do attach keys, the odds increase slightly (probably about the same as being struck by lightening).

The recall fix doesn't address the actual ignition switch. They just mutilate your fob. I'd have a hard time explaining that to a potential buyer if I ever try to sell my Camaro.

Let your conscience be your guide, but I'm going to "push the envelope" and hang on to my functioning key fob. If I'm killed because I somehow unwittingly contort myself into the theoretical position required to cause this accident, then I guess GM will have the last laugh.

I'll take my chances.

Don't do it. My dealer sold me a new 2014 on Saturday with the switchblade key. If a dealer can ignore it, so can i!
