Upgrade my V6 LFX?
I have been debating on what to do, I am thinking of either upgrading to a TT V6 or with the same amount of money would cost me to do that upgrade to a SS (probably 2013).
What do you guys think?

If you ask me i'd say get the SS. I say this as i did this very same thing. Traded a LFX to a SS. I was going to do a TT or SC but my heart really wanted a V8. I was all done when i went to a local 5th Gen. Camaro meet and seen some wicked SC'd SS's and turbo'd SS's. Traded my car a week later. Never regretted it. You also get way more after market power options and company's making them when it comes to the V8's vs the V6's. Sure you can make as much hp as a stock SS going turbo or SC'd on the V6 but add some bolt on's for the SS and the V6 is trying to play catch up again. To me there's nothing like a cammed and exhausted V8 sound.

Traded from the LFX to an SS myself a week ago. Payments are more, but you get the power AND the warranty which is cool. Plus it has that nice V8 rumble to it. |

Do the SS
there is no huge benefit to the LFX over the LLT |

I'd do the TT for something different-- you can make more power than a stock (or even lightly modded) SS with TT, can't you? Also, a fully loaded 2SS/RS is gonna cost you a LOT more than an additional $6k; they're going for $39k-40k now.
I'm not a fan of the LFX... between the plastic intake manifold and the fact you can't put headers on it, I'm glad I have the LLT.

If you can afford trading to a SS, get the SS rather than doing F/I on the V6. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting to SC or TC a V6, but there are much more options with the V8 and you're going to make more power with the V8 as well. But, in the end do what you want to do. Don't let us persuade you into anything. |

Now onto the second part... Plastic intake manifold means lower temps and more power. Don't need headers, pop the heads off, port the castings, increase the exhaust pipe tube if need be but it's really all unnecessary - the restricting point is the cats and mufflers.

On the TT install, my dealer offered to do it and warranty it. Of course I lack the $$ And that's true on the LFX.

If the OP wants to stand out, I'm going to agree with you on the F/I V6 as you don't see many of them and the V6 does/can make great power. It all depends on what you want really, and of course what you want to spend. I really dislike the common misconception that every V6 owner is just someone who can't afford an SS. That's simply not true at all. There are many positives to the V6. So if i were you, I would decide exactly how much extra power means to you. Do you go to the track or are you looking for a street application? (Not endorsing street racing for all the out there ) Figure out the answers to those kinds of questions and then you will be in a better position to decide what is right for you. Whatever you choose, have fun, be safe, and good luck! |
