Coolent Temp
What coolent temp does your car have with a 160 thermostat dirving at 60-70 mph? Before I changed it, it would reed 200-210, now with the 160 it reads 186-190. I would think it would be less. This is on a 85-90 degree day. I don't usually dirve it when it is hotter than that.

The thermostat only determines what temp it opens the cooling system; it doesn't mean your coolant will be 160. Without changing your fan switching points with a tune you won't see a major change. Plus you reach a point where cooler isn't better.

It was tuned for the 160. I didn't think it would run 160. The factory one is rated at 92.2c which is around 198, I just figured with the 160 it would run 30 or so degrees cooler.

No that won't happen. If you still want it cooler you should look at adding an additive like water wetter or purple ice. It won't have much of a change either since you're pretty close to optimum already. It would only help if you did some road racing where the rpms stayed high and you were actually getting the system a lot hotter. Oklahoma gets cold so I wouldn't reduce your coolant percentage to get better heat dissipation from more water. Realistically your temp is perfectly good so you don't have to do anything.

unless you program your ecm with a custom o/s you dont have any control of the fans below 192*f,, i have a custom o/s in mine and i can control the fans all the way down too 163*f
also you have to remember the temp sender is located in the cylinder head and the thermostat is in the waterpump

I agree with Crowley above. My temps are right close to where he is as well and we both drive in hot Texas heat. You are firne. Also my tranny temps droped about 10 to 15 degrees as well on my Man 6 car after the stat change.
