Skinnies

What are y'all using for skinnies in the front?

I heard you can use GTO spares but I heard you can't also

Also heard you can use CTS-V spares

Anyone else have a fairly cheap option to use?

Thanks
Alex

All depends on the track and how fast your car is. Some won't let you use spares at all. Some evidently will if your car isn't too fast. I've got ROD1's old set, but haven't tried using them, yet. They evidently weren't too happy with HDRS at Lucas Oil's track for using his.

There really isn't a cheap way to go. If you want to keep your V6 front brakes then I think you can find some wheels and tires that will fit at a place like JEGs or Summit Racing. If you get 18' wheels then it is a real pain finding skinny tires that will fit.

Well, people were using spares..... however a number of tracks seem to be cracking down and not letting people run spare tires, since most of them have like a 55 MPH rating... Personally I would avoid using a spare..

Tires won't be cheap if you are trying to stay around the stock diameter. I found some on JEGs that are for 17 inch wheels and are 28" tall (close to stock). I think they were about $250 each. Of course they will last a long time, but I would have to be racing every weekend to justify $700+ for wheels and tires up front. For now I'll just keep using my road tires and worry about it once the car is lined out and can consistently make it all the way down the track.

Do you have a stock spare? I'll sell you mine if you want. Pop those two on there and you're good to go. Most spares are rated up to 55 MPH, but those ratings are for speed over time. 30 seconds or less at high speeds and you will be fine as long as you let them cool down, which means you should be fine.

You don't want to go the "cheap" route when working on the most critical part of your car. That's just plan not bright. I'll never understand why 90% of this site spends tons of money modding their car and then doesn't want to spend a little more to do it right.

I totally understand that aspect but it's not just the $50k builds that look for the cheaper way out. It's everyone. It's all you have between your ass and the blacktop. I would want the best/safest stuff available. We arent talking cold air kits.I just figured tires/wheels into what I was spending.

It's really none of my business but more often than not this is where you find people trying to cut corners.

Supercharged SS is correct. We have the ricers come with super fast rotaries locally and have the 55 mph temp spares on the front. They get mad when kicked out but it is not if they want to die or wreck their car...it is the guy in the other lane and the spectators that are at risk.

Dont cheap out on drag tires/wheels.

I can't help it if I have 2 sets of Bogart skinnies. I'm bipolar so I use the set that fits my mood!

All I can comment on are the Bogarts. They run about $625-$650 each plus caps and lugs. The tires are on the M and H site. I'm not sure about the price. Expensive yes, but if you really need them it means you have a hella fast car and want to be safe.
