Long tube headers, CAI, ported TB, high flow cats, 3" exhaust, water pump (?), under drive pulley, torque converter (?), dyno tune
I'm not putting cam in there because a cam swap is the equivalent of open heart surgery. |

I didn't specify but I'm manual trans. By water pump do you mean an electric pump?

OK if you are a M6 then scratch the torque converter. Yes, an electric water pump.

What would the electric water pump do? And I've been told many performance guys that say do not do the under drive pulley. Not worth the little hp u get an can cause more problems than most mods.

Alot of people have the underdrive pulley with no problems, but i dont recommend them. On stock the water pump is driven by the belt, an electric one isnt so it adds power, as the charge is drawn when the power is not being used. The zl1 even has a electric power steering pump too

Read my Build Journal to see what full bolt-ons can do.
Underdrive pulley's work better for an M6, whereas with an A6, you may have to bump up the idle. I'm an A6 and I did notice an increase in gas mileage. I would not recommend an electric water pump unless you're doing mainly drag racing or stoplight racing. If you're doing sustained rpm's (roadrace or autocross), it won't keep up. But I do like Meziere pump for my application. Oh and don't forget that indeed, shorties and high-flow catte midpipes are a viable offering with proven power gains. Padre |

There is not an official definition. Something close to what everyone has mentioned so far is about right.

Let's not forget gears, clutch, driveshaft, drag radials, weight reduction, suspension improvements, intake, throttle body. My understanding is any modifications that do not result in internal engine modifications (cam, heads, short block) or power adders (nitrous, turbo, supercharger).
Padre has done an outstanding job with his build and offers a lot of great advice on how to get this done correctly. His build thread should be sent to every new owner looking to do incremental changes.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I'll be sure to read Padre's build. I was just curious as to what is considered full bolt ons. I've got CAI, muffler delete at the moment. Looking at suspension next. Then headers, hi flo cats and probably a cam by summer. Thx again.

Headers are pointless without the tune, correct? But that's not the case with exhaust and CAI?
Also with the tune, are you guys taking your car in for dyno, test and tune, and then dyno or just using handheld tuners at home? |

I'm new to tinkering with cars, but in my thought things like suspension are in their own class. If you say that suspension mods are bolt ons...because they bolt on....well, supercharges are bolted on as well...along with any cosmetic mods etc. Wheels are bolt on, but they have their own catagory.
So, in short, I think bolt-on is specific to engine. Headers, high-flow or no cats, full exhaust, CAI, tune |
