Someone want to explain to me...
.. about the Z/28 not being a daily driver?
Granted, it doesn't have the creature comforts, etc. but is there a more serious reason why Chevy has stated this? I can see this car as the weekend warrior, breaking it out on nice days, etc. even for those of us that don't have track related aspirations. |

Tires are expensive. Brakes are expensive. But it'll drive a little harsh but more than fine for DD

How livable is this car on the road…not racing?
If you’ve ever driven a car like the Porsche 911 or something like that, it has a very athletic feel. The spring rates are higher, the ride frequencies are higher, the car’s a lighter weight car, the gearbox is nice and short throws with the high-compression LS7…it’s a very athletic feeling Camaro. It’s very light and nimble. Speaking of driving it every day, we did an eight-hour night ride where we drove 300 miles in one night. And the car is just a hoot to drive on the street. This was from Mark Steilow interview.... |

Its probably similar to how people would daily drive a Vette but not a Viper. Most people would get annoyed by the car on a daily basis but some would not care. Also the tires would probably wear out quickly and are only great in dry warm weather. Not show stoppers but more than some want to deal with. With no AC, rougher ride, little noise insulation - these things depending on your drive and personality could be annoying. You know if they did not highlight this someone would be pissed off and complain but the hardcore enthusiasts know what the deal is and might not driving it daily.

I just think that they think your average person expects a more comfortable ride and creature comforts these days, not that the Z/28 couldn't or shouldn't be driven as a DD.

About the only thing I can think of is dry sump systems tend to take a long time to get the oil up to temperature. Designed to be driven track-hard and for additional cooling.

The suspension is going to be extremely stiff and unforgiving on any kind of surface that's not smooth. I've hit a few bumps on the Parkway in my 1LE that have hurt...I can only imagine what they'd feel like in a Z/28.
And as everyone else said, tires and brakes are going to get expensive very quickly.

Tire changes same time as oil changes. Not sure how long brake pads will last. If you can afford it, DD the heck out of it.

To DD this car, one will have to swap wheels with something more streetable like the Zl1 or 1Le setup.
I would personally add more sidewall to the tires to help with the harsh road bumps...more like the SS setup. You lose the look and some performance but who needs it to go to work. You keep the good stuff for the track! Aarrrrrrr!!

this thing has more options than some other cars ive owned in recent history lol. so the creature comforts are there. its more going to be the cost to replace the track specific stuff like tires and brakes that'll add up and make you not wanna drive it every day.
granted you could always buy a set of normal tires and roll around on those and keep the R specs for the track days. but lets be honest, someone that buys one of these probably has another car as well. so they could just choose to take the Z/28 to work one day if they choose to. but i definetly wouldnt own this as my only car. |
