Another tire question?

I just wanted to get some opinions, my car makes 750rwhp and 722rwt. I had mickey drag radials installed while the engine work was getting done and now the car shakes like crazy at 140-160km, you cant even drive the car at that speed it's so bad. I thought the tire balance was off but after checking it its a bad tire, in fact both tires needed 6-7 oz to balance. The tires were purchased in the U.S and I live in Canada so returning them is out of the question. So my question is do I replace all four tires with Michelin or Hankook, or do I just replace the rears with stock goodyears since the car only has 4,000km and the front stock tires are still fine. I don't drag race I just wanted better traction and I really wasn't impressed with the traction the DR's gave me on the street @27psi.

OK, you mounted the tires on the factory wheels and they shook, correct? I bought some MT street radials also and had the same problem.I took them back to the shop that mounted them and told them to break them down and turn the tire 180 degress and re balance them. One wheel just took a couple of weights but the other one took more.We stayed after it and broke the tire down again and we kept moving the tire on the wheel until we almost got it perfect without any weights. So this worked for me and all I can tell you is to try it.Good luck

I am thinking about purchasing a set of drag radials. Is this a know problem with all drag radials or brand specific? Thanks

It's not all drag radials.

After doing a google search on Mickey Thompson drag radials, I found out that so many people are having the same problems with balancing issues needing crazy amount of weight to balance and then still having vibrating issues. I guess I will return to regular radials.

If you want a sticky street tire that is also good for twisty roads, check out Hankook R-S3 or Toyo R888. The Toyo's are stickier than the Hankooks. With the RS-3 on my 750rwhp C6 I could punch it at 50mph in 2nd gear and it would hook when the tires were warm. My Michelin Pilot Super Sports wouldn't do that.

+1 ...... Drag radials are good for drag racing with low pressure in the tires. The Toyo R888 is the best all around sticky tire in my opinion. I don't think my car will ever have anything other than Toyos on the stock rims. Not good in the rain and make more road noise but much better handling and acceleration.

One way to look at those two choices is like this:

Hankook R-S3: Street tire that can be used on the track

Toyo R888: Track tire that can be used on the street
