As a person who spends an hour and a half at the gym 7 days a week all I have to say is a stair stepper never hurt anyone..... If you don't want to take care of your body, thats 100% your choice. But, don't get all butt hurt over it when you look like a slob. I personally would never go out of my way to attack someone because of their weight, because that is their choice, but it is very sad to see so many people obese now-a-days.

What I don't get is, does this person who sent that email not have a life, that they are gonna run around calling people fat? Attacking them for no reason? She didn't do anything to them... Like, don't they have anything better to do? That's what I got out of this whole fiasco. Some people are just assholes and have nothing better to do than point out the flaws of other people, and they should take a look in the mirror before pointing out the shortcomings of others, because they obviously have twice as many, and insecurity is a pretty stinky perfume.
Just my .02.

The vast majority of obese people lack self control, proper health knowledge, and drive to become healthy. Obesity is a huge problem in this country that is completely controllable. My generation (22) will be forced to deal with the health issues these obese people will undoubtedly have in the future. I hate how protected overweight people are from criticism, it is outrageous. The fact is, being obese is going to take a large chunk off your lifespan. Look at this comment off the video: "People call me bad names all the time, and my Mom said it is just because those people are sad and mad inside. This lady is not fat, she is just big boned. She is beautiful in every single way and words can't bring her down." This is the problem! I hate this stupid crap that our culture plays to. "Oh every women must be called beautiful and their insecurities need to be supported." Being obese is not okay, it is not beautiful, it is a serious health hazard. |

I'm a FIRM believer in being in shape, and I run and work out often. I'm not in the *best* shape, but I am not obese; I consider myself fit-- and I can play sports and run and hike and do any number of activities and sports with ease. I enjoy being active and wish more parents would make their kids be active instead of sitting them in front of a TV with a Playstation. It disgusts me, seeing fat slobs everywhere who have no respect for themselves or others, don't get me wrong. And a lot of them use their food stamps and welfare to lay on their asses, eating junk food and teaching their kids to do the same. And these people are EVERYWHERE. Our damn country needs a diet. It's ridiculous. And yeah, if you're obese and eat a diet of McDonald's you're gonna die quicker than I am. That's just Darwinism. But the fact that people are taking the time to email someone they don't know and call them fat? Sorry, but that's just lame.

I'm just really not sure who is more stupid in this scenario, the person sending the email, assuming that this overweight lady will actually listen to them, or the lady herself for actually responding to it on air and essentially justifying her obesity. |

What if email came from TV station exec?

Personally I don't care WHAT she weighs. The news lady DID THIS to get more attention for HER and her stations RATINGS. She is very SMART. This TV lady actually looks like a beautiful lady who just happens to be overweight. There are stacks and stacks of women who look like that. Last edited by 2001ragtop; 10-03-2012 at 12:10 PM. |

I'm sorry, but put down the fork and get on a treadmill.
The overall health of this country is in the dump. McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. are pumping out all kinds of chemically-altered, fatty garbage that people wolf down. Couple that with technology making life so easy you never need to get off the couch. It seems most people don't want to put the effort into maintaining a health lifestyle. I joke with my friends all the time when I look around in public - If we ever get invaded by aliens, or attacked by zombies: We're screwed. It is getting kind of sad that the average person these days is completely out of shape and likely overweight. It's pathetic to see how many people waste away their lives and health because of lazyness and bad habits. One of the trainers at one of the gyms I go to runs a quarterly groupon special for 'boot-camp' classes, and all the fatties waddle in for the cheap deal. They don't even last a week before the quit. If all that, "I'm beautiful on the inside" stuff does it for ya, then have at it. Enjoy your declining health and standard of living.

Funny thing is, when I go to the gym with all these "fitness athletes", I'm the only one who actually doesn't run over people to get to a convenient parking space as close to the entrance as possible.

whether she's overweight or not, no reason to email her and call her fat. Beside's the person doing the emailing doesn't know her health situation, how many children she's given birth to , etc.
i keep myself in shape, but i also have friends who are overweight, so not cool to me. |

Not that I'm saying I approve of people going out of there way to call people fat, I have overweight friends too. But what I quoted above is an excuse and is part of the problem.
My GF hates the "I gave birth to children so I can't stay in shape" nonsense. She works in the fitness field, has had 3 children, and is 20 years older than me.... and she looks better than pretty much all the women that are my age. Too many excuses these days. Everyone has the ability to get healthier, eat smarter, and exercise in some shape or form. Excuses are getting too rediculous.

The only problem I have with this lady's response is that the email was a personal, one-on-one, communication. I would think it would have been better for her to just blow it off, rather than make it public. He's a "bully" because his opinion (that he shared with her, and only her) is this lady sets a bad example for viewers? I don't know. I can't disagree with him and I'd hardly call it bullying. I think it would have been better for her to just blow it off, rather than make it public.

Alright here's my outlook on this, was this guy in the wrong? Yes/No. No, because technically it is his own opinion. Yes, because honestly, did this guy have to tell her about her weight? Like did his life hang in the balance of whether he told her or not? This may have just been where I'm from, but I was taught to treat people with respect. And IMHO, telling this lady about her weight problems in such a rude way is both disrespectful and unneeded. I don't, and never will, judge people on their weight. They're all the same to me whether they're skinny or overweight.
I completely agree with how this lady handled it. Chances are, she's put up with it all her life.
