2011 LS Rod knock at 4700 miles - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

FYI;
My son gave me a call on Sunday and says dad the Camaro is making a knocking noise I replied I will be there in a couple of minutes. I got to his house and asked him to start the car.
Right away I hear a small knock tell him to rev it up a bit and then I said turn it off. I am not a certified mechanic but I think I know what a Rod knock sounds like. So this morning I drop off the car at the dealer.
The dealer calls me at 2:00pm and says the motor needs to be replaced and hopes it will be done by next Thursday. I can’t believe this happen to my son on his first new car and it only has 4700 miles on it.
However it looks like the dealer and GM is stepping up to the plate and thank god they didn’t recommend rebuilding it.

that sucks man, that's the 2nd case of this I've seen on here....the other guy traded up to a SS because they rebuilt his V6 to a disasterous result, sounds like they learned their lesson and just replacing they now...best of luck in your situation.

WOW........that sucks......any idea what the oil level was at before you took it into the dealer. Glad to hear they are going to replace the entire engine.

Sorry to hear his troubles, glad gm is stepping up to the plate.
They say why ? Was there an oiling issue?

we just got a new work truck with the 5.3l 250 miles on it and it dropped a valve. they put a new engine in also. i am glad to see GM is replacing the failed engines instead of getting dealers to rebuild them.

So not called for. With the thousands of v6 motors they've put into these cars there's bound to be a few that have issues, just like any other car. Hope he's not camaro-less long.

Doped the car off on Monday and the car was finished Friday afternoon.

Fantastic service by the dealer the car runs great.

They did not open the old motor so I don’t know what the cause is however I suspect an oil issue.
Also I would like to state that my son does know how to drive and did not abuse the car. In fact I treat my Camaro a lot harder then he has. His car is a 100% stock no mods.
So I know for a fact this was not his fault.
