VARARAM Test unit #007 w/ Chuck CoW tune

I was lucky enough to receive a Vararam beta-test unit (#007 ). This is a the "race" unit that requires a tune. (They are also building a "street" unit that DOES NOT require a tune). So we swapped in the intake and a 160deg thermostat and spent the rest of the night working on the tune.

Tuning was done by Chuck CoW of "Corvette's of Westchester" in Ossining NY. I have to say I'm very impressed with Chuck's knowledge and patience/attention to detail to get the car tuned perfectly. This is the guy you want tuning YOUR car.

WOW...this really woke the car up. I can actually pass in 6th gear on the highway now! Before I thought it felt like there was something holding the car back, now it feels like it just wants to keep pulling....especially at WOT. I don't have dyno #'s yet (and I am told it will be hard to get real accurate #'s with this because it NEEDS air)...but it certainly makes a difference you can feel all throughout the RPM range. I can't give you any MPG #'s yet, I haven't driven it all that much since the install and when I was driving, I wasn't exactly going easy on it.

Keep in mind the unit is a beta tester, so fit and finish will be better on the production unit. It is sealed, so I can't answer any questions about the inside of the box or the filter. And, I don't have the info on when they'll be available and what the est cost will be.

When will you have dyno numbers? It will be hard to tell how much is due to the Vararam since the car has been tuned also. Did you pull three different dyno numbers: stock, with intake, with intake and tune? Regardless, if it make 60rwhp with a tune that is great!! Since it makes as much hp as a set of LT header I hope they don't cost as much

Are you coming to Orchard Beach on Sunday (if it doesn't rain)?

I got stock dyno #'s...359hp/362tq (on a mustang dyno). Going back hopfully next week. Not sure if we'll get #'s without the tune because this unit really needs the tune to run right. We're doing headers and exhaust soon too.

I'm very happy with it...don't think I could expect anything more out of it.

Does anyone have actual dyno numbers (baseline without intake vs intake -without tune) for the Vararam?

Because everytime I read a thread about the Vararam intake the HP number keep going up and up. Soon the Vararam will be making more HP than a supercharger.

It looks like to me that the no-tune street unit is supposed to make just over 30hp without a tune. And the tune-required race unit needs a tune to run properly and may make up to 60hp with the tune. Which is impressive, AR Headers make up to 50hp with a tune and cost much, much more.

Did you dyno your no tune unit?
I haven't been reading up on all the vararam threads. What was your baseline and what were your numbers with the intake (no tune)?
