Wink Security

Hey all - security seems very basic on the 2012 Camaro. No factory fitted alarm or immobiliser!!!!! Anyone had these extras fitted or planning to have? Love to hear any comments/suggestions. Cheers. Phatz

I could not get mine insured without a Class 1 FROG (ha ha) Immobilzer and Alarm and all the fitting certification to prove it was done correctly.
They also wanted me to have satellite tracker installed.

My 2011, imported 2LT has a factory alarm and immobiser. In fact it was good enough to not need any UK augmentation for my insurers. Does your key fob have a little picture of a loudspeaker on it. If it has, press it, and you'll hear the alarm.

Here is the Owner's manual. States exactly what the Camaro has, an alarm and immobilizer.

I don't have my car yet - I have about 5 weeks to go until it gets here! The 2012 SS spec from the UK website doesn't list any security other than central locking. Rendo - I see from your attachment that the 2010 manual says it has. Can't believe that it has been dropped! I think I need to follow up with the dealer also just to confirm.

It would be a hell of an oversight if Chevrolet had omitted a security system on any of their cars, never mind a Camaro, in these days of tight insuance company scrutiny. I think today, security systems are so common, that blurb in websites and brochures wouldn't bother mentioning them. A bit like they don't mention heated rear screens these days, and yet in 1975, for example, that was a big deal.
