The 3.5 and 3.9 are front drivers. The 3.6 is the only rear drive v6 in the GM inventory for cars. Because multiple cars are using this engine, it is built in quantity and that is why it can be offered in the Camaro and still have the base price around $20k.

Everyone repeat after me: "Its not the size that matters..."

What if they use a 6.0L that makes more power than a 6.2? Or heck what about a 5.3L that makes more than a 6.2?

I believe the Gen V will have an excellent V8. Look at the majority of the previous models... The Camaro typically has the base 'Vette engine in her. 1993-1997 Camaro; lt1 (detuned)

1993-1997 Corvette;

1998-2002 SS & Z28; ls1 (detuned).

1998-2004 Corvette; ls1.

2005-2006 GTO (Camaro/ Firebird's sad replacement) ls2.

2005-2006 Corvette; ls2.

There is an obvious pattern here. What is everyone concerned for? More than likely, whatever the '09 base 'Vette has, the '09 Camaro will have, tuned down about 20-30 horses, or so. It'll be okay.

I thought the 3.6 was supposed to make about 260 and 300 (DI),but not 280 . . .

Anyway, motortrend is generally pretty good on things like this. But unless there is something that they know and we don't then I won't pay too much attention to this article. I think that what might have happened is that they were told 6.0L V8, and thought LS2. But who knows. I don't really care what V8 goes into the Camaro, so long as it costs ~26-30k.

Oh, and 2010 5thGen: you need to specify which 6.0L you are talking about. its not the 6.0L its a 6.0L. Same with 6.2L. Vettes have 2 6.2L engines. one makes 436 hp, the other makes 620 hp. Slight difference. So even if the engines have the same block and same displacement, if they have a different name and power rating they are different engines. Besides, typing LS2 requires fewer keystrokes than 6.0L.

I've decided I'm no longer worrying about engines until something further is said by someone at GM. I have my own idea of HP #'s in mind since the concept debuted...and those #'s haven't changed.

I have already been told...."What if there were a V6 that put out just as much HP as your SS and saved you money on your car insurance?"

Don't be suprised if there is a HI PO V6 pushing 300hp if not over. At least, I won't be.

There is another version of the 3.6 coming out in the Traverse that also puts out 281 HP. Sounds like the Camaro is getting the same engine.

There's actually 3 versions of the 3.6. The normal and DI RWD version from the CTS and the FWD version in various states of tune appearing in many other platforms(Aura,Malibu,Equinox,Acadia, etc...). The Traverse and its sisters(Acadia,Outlook,Enclave) are available in either FWD or AWD, so it gets the FWD version. All versions are "basically" the same, but the changes for FWD applications make that engine unique.
