RS package

I notice that just about everyone orders their Camaro with the RS package. Can someone explain why it is worth it? It seems like an awful lot of money for some modified lights, body ditch molding, the tires they offer and the spoiler. I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing as to why everyone orders this package.

Also, does anyone know if a dealer is able to get just the spoiler and install that only?

Thanks for the info

I think it gives the car an even more aggressive look with the halo lights.

I don't know about the spoiler..but I believe it can be done.

I believe someone asked this in an earlier thread but I can't remember where it is....I think it is more worth it the more basic of a model you have. As the models go up in $, more and more parts of the original RS package are added (like the spoiler and 20" rims on the 2SS I think), but you are still charged quite a bit for the remaining parts of the package (lights and painted molding). I read in that thread that the dealers cannot install the spoiler on the car. If you want to save the money I guess you could install the halo headlights later on (for a few hundred probably). However, if you break down the package, I think it's worth it for those lights, upgrade in rims, painted molding, spoiler, and darker tail lights. Some people pay over a grand just for their rims! This is just my .02. Good luck with your decision.

i got it for a) bigger wheels and nice Pirelli Tires b) the halos, IMO, are freaking awesome at night and stand out a LOT more than normal headlights c) spoiler is def. worth having, makes the back end stick out a little better and adds some elements of speed when looking at the car d) the reverse mohawk is a cool thing to have (the roof molding) e) i believe (dont quote me on this) that my RS package included the Convenience package, which came with bluetooth, leather wrapped steering wheel, wheel mounted controls, and some other things.

Overall, I think its worth getting the RS...unless u plan on gettin a custom spoiler and custom wheels, I think its a good buy...but this is all just my opinion

I don't believe the RS comes with the convenience package. You pay extra for that except for certain models (SS?), where it is 'included' for a hefty increase in price on those models.

RS Package is separate from convenience package (I got both)

Also, halos HID are 1200$ just the headlight part, cars are not wired the same way so you cannot cheaply retrofit the real RS headlight.

The HIDs are the main cost of the RS kit. REAL HIDs are not cheap, the ones you see on civics that blind you on the road are just brighter bulbs that are marketed as HIDs.

There is NO comparison between the stock headlights and the HIDs. NONE. Go take one of each for a test drive some evening and check out the road lighting difference. The Halos are just a real cool extra bonus. JMO.

for my LT it was worth it just for the halos and upgrade to 20" Rims and tires. The darker taillights, body coloured roof ditching, spoiler and RS badging were all pluses

My opinion, RS package is a must on a LT. On a SS, its a different story. SS, you already get the spoiler & the wheels. Its worth it and its a must on a LT.

the RS package includes:

HID Hi/Lo lights.
Halo rings
body-color roof ditch moulding
specific badging
lip spoiler (on LT models)
Midnight Silver 20" rims + tires
and smoked taillights.

Exterior changes ONLY, no interior mods.

It costs $1750, $1450, and $1200 for the 1LT, 2LT, and SSs respectively.

IMO, this package is worth well over what they're charging for it. The headlights alone will run you approx $500-600 a piece. They provide an absolutely heavenly cast of light...VERY top-of-the-line stuff...Number 3 (GM employee and valued Camaro5 member) remarked that they were absolutely the best headlights he's ever experienced and he test drives a LOT of cars for the company.

The Halo rings are downright sinister. I wish they were bright enough to use as Daytime Running lights from the factory, but as it is...they are badass in every sense of the term. (they make BMW angel eyes look old and boring, imo)

The roof-ditch moldings make the roof of the car a little cleaner, and and little more upscale...I only wish this included a body-color shark fin.

The rims are fantastic...if you haven't seen midnight silver in person, check it out. They don't look dirty so much as have an "inner shadow", if that makes sense. Very neat.

And the same goes for the smoked taillights. Just a better look, imo.

For LT models, it gives the car a more SS-like appearance (spoiler, rims), and adds 'RS' badging. It becomes and even greater value (as some have said) for LT models because the rims are probably worth well over $1000/4 if they were sold by themselves as an option.

However, if you don't like the Halo rings, for instance...or maybe for some reason you prefer the warm light of the standard halogens...then the package isn't worth it and you shouldn't feel pressured into buying it.

The RS package completes the car. I saw one without it and it looked, well just wrong. The car needs the spoiler and all the other items in the package.

I drove a non-RS V6 and bought an RS V8. The HIDs alone are worth the money. Not only do they look awesome on the car they are way brighter than the standard lights. The other items are just nice kickers in the deal.
