Do NOT drive with summer tires when raining

Lost control and luckily hit highway barriers,Thank God I am ok but my Camaro had serious damage and right seat airbag deployed while unoccupied.Would like to know what you guys think about the damage and if it looks like a total loss?

Glad you're OK! I got caught in a sleet/hailstorm about 3 weeks ago with my P Zeros on. At around 40mph you could feel it get "floaty", not fun. I hope you get it fixed quickly!

Looks like a little metal work and a rear bumper cover? Is there front damage?

I have driven dozens of cars with summer tires in the rain with zero issues. My advice is to adjust your driving style to the road conditions. Not saying it was what was going on in your case, but too many people drive exactly the same in the rain as they do when it is dry, which is a recipe for disaster. Sorry about your car, but glad you're okay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - these cars shouldn't come with summer-only tires stock. I've heard every single excuse possible from this forum as to why they do. The fact is, summer tires stink at everything. They're useless in the cold and snow, poor in the rain and when it comes to actual dry conditions, they fail as to what an actual sticky tire can produce. I suffered through PZero's for one year. Horrendous tire. Terrible grip in real-world conditions, horrible treadlife, noisy and very expensive. Switched to Gmax's and they handle just as well as a PZero in perfect street conditions and far outperform in every single condition that isn't 100% perfect. Plus, double the treadlife and they cost 30% less. I thought I'd be snowed in one day. 8 inches, unplowed, uphill. I cut right through it. I'm sold.

These cars should've had GMax's stock. For the "magazine time" excuse, the solution is simple - make an all season the standard and have a summer-only option. If you want to pay more for worse performance on a streetcar so you can have a couple seconds shaved off an 8 minute track time, the option will be available so GM can brag to Motor Trend. For the casual driver they're a major problem.

To the OP - glad you're OK. Once your car gets fixed, do the smart thing and get those junk tires off for a set of GMax's or equivalent. I couldn't begin to tell you the improvement in the quality of your drive. Every aspect in real-world driving is improved dramatically.

Hope your ok and safe, damages can always be fixed. As long as no one got hurt , its not a total lost. That's what insurance is for.... Hope you get your ride on the road soon. There are some good all weather tires out there, it depends what you wanna spend.... Good luck.
