6 bolt / Cylinder head guys, step in please.

So finally some progress is being made on my project untill last night. We have the engine on the stand and noticed that the stock casting exhaust manifolds will not clear the "6th" bolt or the extra bolts for the #7 and #8 cylinder. This is an issue because the IPS turbo kit was designed to re-use these manifolds for their strength and their heat retention. My first thought was to try and use a shorty header designed for the 5th gen but I am not sure if they will clear the extra bolts or if they are structurally strong enough to support the turbos? Obviously the best option is a custom turbo manifold but my last quote of $2,000 seems a bit rough. Any thoughts and suggtions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I would call IPS as they did a RHS block with RHS 6 bolt heads and had to do a custom manifold for it in place of the stock one. If they kept the jig then they can make you one just like it.

Hope you get it figured out. I have been following your build since CBI did the work to the car I bought!

I think Darth Emma has a real similar build. I think she had custom tubes made though.

I knew this was gonna be an issue for future builds with the 6 bolt heads when retaining the factory manifolds on these turbo builds which is exactly what I did.All you gotta do is put a couple of bolts in there to hold it so it'll be properly aligned mark it with a sharpie, take it back off, take a diegrinder and take sum material out,I have the GMPP LSX heads and I had to take it all the way down till there was a hole in the manifold so it would clear, then I came in from the back/inside with sum mild steel and tig welded, smoothed it out turned out nice,I think I might have sum pics somewhere if I can find them,Any good fab shop should be able to do that for you for about $100.00 bucks

Sounds like some straight forward minor fabrication. I would think IPS could make it work

CBI had a few extra manifolds laying around so we tested a few ideas. First was heating up and bending but the bend was so severe the cast showed signs of fatigue, so next he cut a hole and welded a flat plate in its place but I didn't feel comfortable with that either for longevity sake. So the decision was made to create a custom set of tubular manifolds. I will keep the threads updated as progress continues. Thanks guys.

Thanks,
Get a die grinder and a carbide bit. Then clearance foe the necessary bolt. Easy fix. Should not even take 5 minutes.
