Quad tips protruding

Just had quad tips installed along with a 1le diffuser, and the dude at the muffler place said there wasn't enough room to get it closer than this (see pic). Also the ugly stock mufflers are more noticeable now, would like to do something about those. Anyone else had quads installed run into a similar issue?

By design, a tip like that is going to be longer than a standard tip, plus, your installer is correct that there is not much room after the mufflers. You could do a muffler delete and gain the room you need, search out different tips that have a shorter overall length or have some custom tips made. Painting the stock mufflers flat black will tone them down and make them less noticeable.

Holy Crap, take it somewhere else and get it fixed... that looks horrible. A new axle back would probably work too.

There is also plenty of room for the mufflers. I just had Corsa put on and the mufflers are twice as big as stock and they fit nicely out of view.

I looked under the car myself and he did get it as close to the muffler as possible I can't blame him for that. I believe it's the angle of the stock mufflers. I'll look into an axle back. Thanks guys

That's what happens when you keep your stock mufflers. That was my plan with the ZL1 diffuser. Wanted to keep my stock mufflers but wanted quad tips. Realized it wasn't an option. I went ahead and purchased an axle back ZL1 exhaust system, problem solved. Won't have it welded up till spring though.

Sickness, where did you purchase your zl1 axle back if you don't mind me asking?

Also I think the 1le diffuser is more open making the stock mufflers more noticable?

I'm pissed off now, the shop should have called me about the fitment issue before welding them on.

Bought it from a member on the site. He couldn't ship the entire exhaust, so I had him cut it from the axle back. Should be a very simple install for an exhaust shop. I paid $475 shipped

If you're wanting to keep the stock mufflers, high temp flat black spray paint will help disguise them somewhat. As far as the tips, I assume the 1 into 2 merger is the source of most of the extra length.
The only thing I see I could do with something like that is first cut the tips back off, mount one tip to the outlet, then custom make something for the 2nd tip, whether fake or a tight merger.

Just custom built a setup to hold 4 quad center tips on my Camaro nose el camino project. You can see that I made actual angle cuts & 2 fishmouth cuts for the outer pipes in order to get them to tuck. While my setup is different than what you'd need, just demonstrating that there are options. Maybe this can give you some ideas.

Note how they only slightly protrude. Without a custom setup, they would have stuck out as far as yours. Ignore the mock up bumper in picture please.

Thanks guys, just went ahead and got a pair of magnaflow mufflers. Can't even drive the car because the damn tips are so close to the diffuser that it started to melt.
