That's a pretty good article. I just have one comment on this part:

Toyota hasn’t been all that successful in China, perhaps because historically, Japan and China have been enemies. Japan didn’t win any friends in China during World War Two.

Japan certainly didn't win any friends in American during WWII either, yet they seem to be doing pretty well in sales here.

Either that logic is flawed, or we American are just the most forgiving nation on the planet. Actually, I think it's a bit of both.

unfortunately, its a testament to how little our citizens know about the past... and how little they care about the future.

German and Japanese cars are some of the best selling cars on the planet... BMW, Benz, VW, Toyota, Mitsubishi... all of these companies supported the Axis powers and they are all some of the most powerful car companies in the world today... in no small part due to the fact that they were aided in reconstruction by the Allied powers and then started selling cars by the boat load to our uninformed and care free masses.

I'm betting on GM to keep the top spot and win next year... and I'll remain loyal to my GM brands for as long as I feel they make the cars that I want... the only Toyota products that I would ever buy have Supra and SC300 written on them... and both of those aren't made anymore, so none of my money would go to the head office... but I might be able to sway whoever is selling the car into buying a GM product to replace it

I think you're right. Plus - Japan is closer to China than it is the US...so they have to deal w/ each other constantly - and in WWII, we got 'revenge' by incinerating two of their cities, and dismantling their army.

Oh....as well as putting it in their 'constitution', that we'll protect them due to their lack of army....so we can't bloody well walk away from them now. That's part of it.

But other than that...Great news, great story, and great prospects. Just imagine, if you will, when the Volt comes out - and all Toyota can muster is a competitor that gets a whopping 7-10 miles on pure electric.....

I can't wait. THIS is the GM the older folks remember, and the younger ones are introduced to, THIS is the GM we all can be proud of supporting, and THIS is the GM that will dominate car sales in the world for years to come!!!!

The Japanesse didn't rape and pillage American cities, or murder millions of your citizens. China suffered almost as much as the Soviet Union did. Also, America does have one of the shortest memories (along with Canada), things are generally forgiven (or forgotten) in about a decade. Old nations take a century or more.


Anyhoo, back on topic. That is a razor thin margin ~3000 cars. Thats 1 week of sales for a top selling vehicle. But I do feel that this is about the best that Toyota will do for a while. GM is on the up swing, while toyota is getting a fair amount of bad press with GM offering lots of exciting new models.
