Brake Pads
I have 22,500 miles on my Camaro and I think that the pads are at the wear indicators (I haven't pulled the wheels yet) but just curious if anyone has Had to replace their brake pads due to the fact that they are worn out?
The reason that I think that they are on the wear indicators is that they are squeaking until I depress the brake pedal, then the noise goes away.. From past experience this means that the brake pads are on the wear indicators. |

holy crap... that is a lot of miles on a car not even a year old!
how hard do you brake in it? if it is squeeking while driving but NOT when braking, the pads are worn and the wear indicators are screaming

You are really racking those miles up.
At least you get to enjoy driving your car all day while at work? I just get to sit and look at mine all day at work. I will see you in about 2 weeks for C5Fest.

I just checked my brakes and still have about 60% pad remaining. I took the brake pads off, scuffed them up and beveled the edges of the pads and put them back on. Seems ok for now ( I do stop hard sometimes ).
See ya in a couple weeks Viper. I am stoked about the meet... I can't wait !! |

Yeah, I play around a little, not a whole lot. I do brake hard at times. I also took my car to MTI Funfest last year and had quite a few hot laps..

Squeaking
I'm at only 5500 miles and my brakes squeak almost everytime I stop now. Thay can't be worn out already can they? They only squeak when stopping so I don't think they are worn out but it seems odd they squeak this much so soon.
Did anyone else have this problem with their 2SS? I drive it pretty hard but this would be a new record for me replacing brake pads. I will be putting on new rims in the next few weeks and will ask the dealership to take a look at the brakes to make sure they are ok, if not I'm going to try to convince them something is up and hope they handle it for free. What do you guys think. |

a few people filed the top and bottom edges on a 30 deg. angle, and scuffed up the face of the pad to get rid of squeaking.
There is probably still a lot of meat left.. |

Thanks for the info. I can live with a little sqeaking but can't live with needing brake pads at 5600 miles if you know what I mean.

When these are gone I'm going with drilled/slotted rotors and better pads though. My baby is going on a major diet.

If you're gettign squeaking on stopping and you have plenty of pad left then you most likely "glazed " your rotors. Meaning you got them hot and the brakes were applied for too long and the pad material transferred over to the rotor.
A couple really good stops and then driving easy to cool them down sometimes takes care of it. If your pads are worn, then we can get you a set of Hawk pads that should do you well |
