Turned away a the dealership?

Just broke 3000 had her for a year. Right on schedule for me, but I want to get the oil changed. So first trip to the owe dealership greeted by service manager and a couple other employee come out to check love that still. Tell him about above and he says I still shouldn't get the oil changed.

I tell him I would still like to and he asks about the % I say 61% he says to just wait till at least 50%. Believe me I appreciate him not just taking my money that is rare these days. But I am old school and really think especially the first drop should already be done.

What are your opinions on this new % vs old school thought.

I would just do it myself. I'm old school and I change mine every 3000 or 3 months. The dealer gave me the free oil change thing but, they won't see me unless there is something major that needs to be worked on. I like the satisfaction of working on my own car. Good escape from everyday work. Just my 3 cents.

The oil life system is accurate, but I'm not sure about the first oil change. I'm under the impression that the general consensus of this forum recommends the break-in oil change to happen at 1,000 miles, then moving to the normal schedule.

1500 miles. You just have to pay for it because it is not a scheduled oil change.

I am one to follow the manual and the manual states to change the oil by the OLM or not to exceed 12 months, so I would say it needs to be changed if you have had it a year and not changed it yet.

My good friend just took her 2010 ss to get its first oil change! She got it late 2009, it just rolled 4k and they still didn't want to change it! Lol but eventually she talked them into it!

synthetic oil does not break down in 3 month and will last well beyond 3k in normal situations.

Some don't like to belive this but it does not change the fact it is true. some manufactures will say 6 months or 12months in time though.

ususally it is the oposite at dealerships though they want ther 3/3000 ha ha.

oil threads crack me up becasue the same guy that thinks the GM has the best engineers in the world and know all and would never run any differnt oil that is listed in the manual. will ignore that same manuals schedule.

oil is like religion people pick and chose which parts to believe ha ha.

Really wanted to changed myself as well do on the rest of my vehicles. Just scared to touch this one for some odd reason.

I took the guys card and have been telling people to go see him. I really think he wanted to be honest about it with me.

I did the early oil change routine one time years ago after being persuaded to do it! Fast forward 17 years I now change it when the meter indicates to change oil! I don't remember which year it was but there was a "white paper" that Mercedes Benz released years ago regarding synthetic oil and use in their engines. In their study they were running their engines to 7500 miles before changing the oil.

...the owners manual explicitly states that the oil should be changed at least once a year on the ZL1 even if the mileage does not warrant it...read it...it's in there.

I would change it, especially the 1st one. Synthetic oils last much longer and you don't have to change as frequently as we did before, but the 1st one is important as there are fine steel particles in your engine.

I alway do my 1st oil change around 500, then they can wait a bit. Everytime time that I have changed the oil on a new motor there is metallic steel you can see in the oil if you look at it in the sunlight. I even have a new Ninja sport bike, changed the oil at 500 and same thing. So while the oil is good, its whats in it that's not good and that should be washed out of your engine. The only vehicle I changed at 500 that was clean was the GT500 and thats because Ford runs them at the factory, and then puts in fresh oil, so they have done your 1st change.

I would change it, then once a year after that if you don't drive much

I bought a new 2012. At the end of the first summer I had 800 mi so before I put it away I had all the fluids changed. I know the oil didn't break down but I always change it around then on my new cars. I switched to Mobil 1. End of the second summer I had 1447 mi and had the oil changed before I put it away again.
I only cars that I go by the computer to get oil changes are my two 2014 Malibu's that my wife and I use for DD.
Wish I lived somewhere I could use the nice cars more
