Pollen, Allergies & Camaro5Fest
Garcmol brought up pollen and allergies in a different thread and I think it is important enough to have it's own thread.
April in Georgia = Pollen, and lots of it. Yesterday it was so bad that the air in our neighborhood was thick and hazy with it. Everytime the breeze cought a pine tree, big huge puffy clouds of it filled the air and would travel and mingle with other clouds of pollen. Pollen is serious stuff this time of year and for those of you who are coming from the northern parts of the U.S. may not be preparted for what's going to hit your system. So if you have allergy issues, especially asthma, please be prepared and bring your medications. Below is a quick run through of everything I could think of off the top of my head. Zyrtec, Claritan, Allegra are the common remedies, but you might want to bring along some benedryl and sudafed as well and Allergy Eye Drops. I recommend Opcon-A and even some saline solution to flush your eyes at the end of the day. If you have Asthma, make sure you bring your medications and inhalers. You may also want to bring some menthol throat lozenges as well as your favorite box of tissue; kleenex or puffs plus with lotion because if you are sensitive you will be sneezing and blowing your nose a lot. At the end of the day, be sure to take a shower to wash all of the pollen out your hair so you don't sleep with it on you all night. This might sound like overkill, but take it from a long time allergy sufferer, you don't want to be miserable at the end of the first day. Last, but not least. Pollen means that everything is in bloom and that means bees and more: We have Honey Bees, big fat Bumble Bees and many varieties of wasps buzzing around this time of year. If you are allergic to bees, please bring whatever is necessary (bee sting kit) should you get stung. Tree's blossoming in Columbus, GA this week: The grass is dormant in the winter and is just now greening up. Those tall skinny tree trunks are pine trees, they are the worst of the offenders in the pollen department. THE WORST OF THEM ALL, THE PINE TREE... RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVING US THIS: parking lots full of pollen pockets of pollen stuck both in the road and on the side of the road It forms hazy clouds of pollen everywhere, kicked up by cars passing by and the wind blowing it off the trees. Pollen Sucks!!! But then again, Valdosta is three hours south of Columbus and NOT in a valley so there is a good chance that the pollen season is over down there. None the less, please pack prepared for allergies. p.s. Apparently not... check out this Link to the Weather Channel Pollen and Weather forecast for Valdosta, GA: http://www.weather.com/outlook/healt...ather/USGA0589 Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Lani

Where do you get your pollen count information, because I wonder if we could get one on the forum for Valdosta and Adel? Or at least a link that could be posted on this thread.

I’ve never had allergies; spent the last 9 years in AZ w/no issues.
This is my first spring in the NE since 2001, and I feel horrible. I can hardly breath, sinuses are clogged...I'm not sure if it's pollen, but it really sucks! |

When you start blowing out yellow/green or brown, it's time to go to the Dr., you need anti-biotics for your sinus infection. Don't let it go too long, because it can get real bad, it's like having pneumonia in your sinuses. A Z-pack (maybe two if it's real bad) will take care of it.

Thanks for the info. I have "slight" issues here and the pollen isn't that bad so I will be bringing my allergy meds along with eye drops. I want this to be a great weekend not something that kicks my butt to where I can't breath.
