I'm a Camaro nut....but I'm also a storm chaser. We drive 30,000 miles a year chasing tornadoes from Texas to South Dakota. I'm going to share a secret.

Everybody uses the internet or their smart phone to get a radar picture. That is the basic, consumer radar shot whether you get it from the national weather service, or from a tv station. The view you are seeing is called "Composite Reflectivity". It is just showing all the layers of rain added together to show where the heaviest return is. BUT, the new National Weather Service Dual Polarity Doppler has SO many more "products" that are available, IF you have the correct software to accept them. When we are chasing, we get the raw Level 2 and Level 3 feeds from the NWS, and are able to look thru all that data in the truck. If you own a iPhone or Android phone, there is a product you can buy (it is $10 in the iTunes store) that will allow you to do SOME of this on your smart phone!

If you are not wanting to be a storm chaser, that is fine, but if you want to keep your car out of hail, install this program on your phone, and then look at a product called "Hi Res Verticle Integrated Liquid". THAT is what shows where the hail is. You can put it into motion to see how it is building, where it is going, and how big it is. This is how we are able to weave our way in and out of hail cores and not get hit.

The program is called "Radar Scope". It was originally done FOR storm chasers, and it has other capabilities that are unlocked if you are a member of Spotter Network, but for anyone it is a life saver.

Hail is a fear of mine and when I know there is a storm coming I just pray! Anyway here is a sad story, I bought a 2012 LS3 SS Camaro 45 Adversary MN6 in July. Last week I was driving home went into a ditch causing $4500 IN DAMAGE. The roads are skinny and there are deep ditches for rain water on each side, but before you would hit the ditch you have about 18 inches of grass or dirt. As I was driving, and we all did this my, I skimmed the edge of the road and since we just had about 4-6 inches of rain my tire immediately sunk and it assisted in pulling me down into the ditch then came back out. I was only in it for about 20 feet and it was horrifying. I was not speeding, 45-50mph and a witness behind me in a pickup stated I have never seen anything like that. He saw it all and said the ground dragged me in and that is one hell of a car to come out drivable. Why my car cost so much to fix is parts, all OEM rims and a front lower grill. Labor is power washing the mud away, stuck everywhere. I was sick to my stomach and sometime this week it will be done. Funny thing is they gave me a ford mustang to drive, 6cyl, it is a dog. It did have nice amenities inside as in Sync, track applications, and others. Of course since it is a rental I tried the 0-60 app. many times and the best was 6.3 seconds. eighth of a mile was 9.9 seconds. Not bad for the wife to drive but not my cup of tea. Thanks Ed.

Garage (noun): A building or shed for housing a motor vehicle or vehicles. Preferably on one's own property. Good luck with the fix, that sucks!

That sucks. I hope that you didnt have to park it outside because you wanted to save your junk in the garage from getting hailed on!

Consider yourself lucky. 2 years ago, we had a huge hailstorm in chicago, my car looked like a golf ball. The only things that werent damaged were my wheels. It was over 11k in damages, had to wait for 4 months for my car to be repaired.

To see some of the pictures

Every single panel except the rear bumper cover.
Costing the insurance company close to $20,000.00
I should have my baby back by the end of the week.
130 hours of work a little over 10 weeks.

Did it have to be painted or paintless dent repair?
