Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. The hardest part about learning is to just not care about the way the care shakes when you're still getting the hang of it. Once you get it down, then worry about smoothness. Another tip is to find a nice flat spot with some room (old parking lots work well) and get the hang of getting the car to move in first without using the throttle. Once you do this and get a good feel for the catch point, the rest is easy.

It's easier to learn on a car more powerful. Harder to stall

If hills are a problem have them use the ebrake. I will use it to get myself moving on a big hill so I don't roll back too far.

Today's manuals are so much easier to drive, if they don't get the hang of it fairly quickly then they may not ever get it. Some people just need more time.

I don't think there are people who just can't learn it. I knew a girl who drive stick like shit but she could drive it.

I tried to teach my daughter to drive the WS6. She simply got out the car the last time it stalled, and walked to the house. That was it!

Took me a full 5 minutes to think about what SO stands for.

Significant other, if any other dummies are reading this

first of all, I seriously doubt the manual V8 gets better gas mileage than the auto V8 (especially in city driving).

learning manual is one thing. enjoying manual long-term is another. manual is not fun in heavy traffic.

otherwise, just need to keep practicing. would have been better to practice on something easier like a 4cyl.

was the same way when I got my C6, thought I was going to stall it on steep inclines. Having a passenger that made fun of me didn't help. But its all good now.

Way back when I fell in love with the Honda Prelude VTEC. It only came stick, so, that was that. I stalled it a lot, at first. It didn't help that I was trolled and was told to start off in 2nd gear... But I loved the loved car and eventually got the hang of it.

Many years later when I bought my LS3 C6 Grand Sport I had to have a stick again. Though, I hadn't driven one in a few years... Stalled it twice trying to drive it off the dealer's lot.

Anyone have a good DIY for how to remove center console. The one on these forums all the picture links are broke.

Also is it possible the hill assist is malfunctioning? I have one in my BMW and it works great. It only engages when the clutch is down and I have never had problems with it holding the brakes too long. The second you hit the clutch engagement point is when it drops the brakes.
