Air in tires

The little message that tells me my tire needs air is really starting to drive me insane...this will make the third time its came on! 1st it was the passenger front tire needed air, next the passenger back tire, and today the driver front tire! Im pretty sure the driver back will need it a few days after i put air in the front..I know the change in temp is a cause for this but geez...i guess i never paid that much attention to the air in my tires before(unless they obviously looked low) since i didnt have a message popping up in front of me constantly telling me to add air to a specific tire because it only has 30 psi...

your tires are supposed to have 36PSI in them when they are cold (probably goes up to 40ish when ran a bit). what are you putting in them? my sensor doesn't alert me until it dips below 30psi so that's a pretty large tolerance... ?

Go to the dealership and have them put nitrogen in your tires. I did and 9 months now with no warning light.

I run non-factory tires, but 33 in the front and 30 in the back unless added traction is needed. It does suck when the car tells you too much. Its just not needed at all.

Change in season effects tire pressure, pressure rises in hot weather and falls in cooler weather. It is simply physics...

Heres a message us dealers received from GM that has some info about cooler weather/tire pressures.

This is a reminder, that as we approach the Fall and Winter Seasons, and with the onset of cooler temperatures, some customers may experience the tire pressure light indicating low tire pressure – ADD AIR. Below are a few key points to remember:

-Explain and provide the Customer with a copy of the “Customer TPMS Information” letter found on the last page of bulletin 09-03-16-002

-GM vehicles are equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) designed to provide Customers with adequate information to maintain proper tire air pressure. The “Tire Pressure Light” coming on at times reminding the Customer to Add -Air when needed should be considered a NORMAL condition. Proper tire air pressure is important to optimize safety, fuel economy, vehicle performance, and tire wear.

-As a rule of thumb, tire pressure will change about 7 kPa (1 psi) for every 6°C (10°F) change in temperature - Tire pressure will drop when the outside temperature gets colder, and rise when it gets warmer.

-When adding air to the tires, always take outside temperature and tire temperature into consideration to properly set tire pressures. For example, on colder days (20°F/-7°C), if setting the tire pressure when the vehicle has been indoors (60°F/16°C) or the tires are warm from being driven, it will be necessary to compensate for the low outside temperature by adding 21-27 kPa (3-4 psi) more than the placard pressure. At some later time, when the vehicle has been parked outside for a while, the tires will cool off and the pressures will drop back into the placard range.

-Maintaining proper tire air pressure is considered a customer maintenance item.

You can bring up a page on your DIC that will show up what the PSI in all of the tires is.
I check mine at least once a week and air up all tires to spec when any tire is 4 PSI low or more. When it starts to get hot at the begining of the summer you my even need to let some air out. Remember to check and fill the tires when they are cold.
