um.... dont think that a 69 hood would fit on a 91.

but check the latch on the front as well as the spring on it. have someone pull the hood release cable as well to make sure its not binding.

^ what he said. Yeah sounds like it's not even latching but hanging on the safety catch. Latch probably needs adjusted.

When you pop the hood, does it actually pop up half an inch or so?

Open the hood, Give the latch a spray of DW 40 & have someone pulling the latch cord from the inside.

Sounds like the hood is totally out of alingment. is there any gapping around the hood?

What irocz said...also, look at how the hood latches, lower male catch goes into the upper latch, mounted on the underside of the hood. Do they appear to be aligned when the hood is almost down? If so, try raising the lower catch. Loosen the set screw, raise it a couple of turns, and see if the hood catches when you close it. Remember how many turns you rotate it in case it doesn't help, you can set it back where it was.

It's hard to say what the prob is without looking at it in person.

use a marker on the screw and the piece it goes into so you can be acurate with how many turns .

Thirdgens are plagued with a bad hood design. It seems on 90% of them, you've got to shimmy the hood when opening.

Third gens aren't plagued with a bad hood design. The supports are worn and need replacing. That will help with the opening of the hood. If you think you have a 69 hood, then I can only assume that the hood is an aftermarket fiberglass hood. If that's the case, anything can be the issue.
