Leather Seats - Cloth between seat and console? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Not a complaint, just a question. Does anyone know why they put this strange fabric between the seat and the console? Is it to prevent the leather rubbing sound as the seats age (my Mark VIII did that).

Also, if these are "leather appointed" seats, what part isn't leather? It all looks leather to me...

You are correct it is to keep from making the rubbing sound while driving. Had a 2005 Grand Prix that did not have the fabric and it was very annoying.

I can not speak for the Camaro directly but i have seen more cars with "leather seating surfaces". So it is leather in the middle but the high wear areas are something else.

The perferated-looking part of the seat (ass holder and backrest) is real leather. All the solid-looking leather is vinyl. However, this is good quality vinyl compared to what were used to from the GM of the 80s and 90s. It might as well be leather, unless you work with leather regularly you will probably never be able to tell the difference.
