Call from dealer
Got a call from my dealer yesterday telling me its almost time to bring it your vehicle in for the 5000 mile check up? Do i really need to do this or is it just them trying to get some extra money.? Thanks if you can help me out on this one.

What is the price of this check up? What exactly do they check? Unless this is free
I would just follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. |

I just follow the owners manual. Sometimes the dealers cause as many problems as they prevent.

I have a good friend who is a factory rep for Nissan, USA, and deals with these issues almost on a daily basis. According to him, if you do these checkups and change oil at the dealer, honoring drive train warranty resulting from failure in this area is pretty much a given. Go to Jiffy lube, even with receipts, good luck, maybe. Change your own oil, lots of luck, probably will need to get out your checkbook. Of course, this policy will vary from manufacturer, but keeping good records and performing required tasks are going to be good ammunition if needed. My dealer lets me bring my own oil and changes it for about 15 bucks. The warranty will probably expire before I put 5k miles on it
