Something to consider.....the beautiful state of Arizona has had some hellacious dust storms lately so I'm not surprised the cabin filter looks like this. Given how easy they are to replace, you could do it yourself on a somewhat regular basis. And don't forget your engine's air filter!!!

Sure looked dirty!

But was the change necessary? What did it look like after 2,000 miles?

I was thinking the same thing. In prior cars the filter started to look dirty pretty quick, but was functionally fine. Takeaway should be 'change them regularly'. For the ease at which it sounds like we can replace them, at least once a year should be fine.

I'll have to look at mine, thanks for the reminder.
My manual says 22,500 miles . I'll take a look at it and see how dirty it is. I was planning to change it next oil change/tire rotation (due at 20,000 miles - in about 4,000 miles).

Once I got that done, I could only raise the front edge of the cowl about 3-4 inches since the back edge is somehow wedged below the windshield. I could see the filter, and reach in and touch it, but could not remove it. I put the thing back together and will try it again when I next change my oil and it's not 90 degrees inside my garage. Geeze - I hate having to force plastic parts to move.

Thanks for the reminder. That's one filter that seems to be universally forgotten.

Yikes is right. My SS is 5 years old with 34,000+ miles.
Doing it today. PalmerGa: Thanks for the video- piece of cake.

Follow up: I go to my local Chevy dealer Monday for the cabin filter. They had them in stock @ $45.00 retail. $33.88 discounted- No thanks !
Went on line and after a short search I found them at $10.00, no shipping, no tax. Not AC/Delco but I don't care.
Just received it- Only 2 days from www.filterheads.com Their part #AQ1150.
I'll put it in tomorrow and let you know how it goes..
