To begin with, I can't believe they did the SS buyers the injustice of no SS-specific hood. Why move away from the past approach for the 5th generation? I'd love to know their reasoning behind that decision.

Then, in lieu, we get the fake fascia scoop, which in itself wouldn't be so bad, but it happens to also be causing all the rally stripe problems for so many people.

I know it's not going to change for 2010 and certainly isn't a show stopper for me, but especially because of the stripe issue, it's a big disappointment.

cost

before GM starts throwing much more at this car, they need to sell the damn things.

there will be options for more things later down the road

That's my plan and believe me, it will look 100% like it is factory.

Not much consolation, but I'm sure you're right. Thanks.

well, look at it like the 4th gens, there were the Z28 and the v-6s looked identical save for the exhaust, a few badges and in some cases the targa panel was black on Z28s and body color on v-6's. then in 96, SLP started doing the SS conversions. the aftermarket will provide us with new hoods facias and other things.
GM can make the car, we will make it ours.

OK let's just let this one die. At first I was against the slot too, but then I realized it's just a styling element. Same reason there are 3 little grooves on the side of the car that simulate vents. Or why there is halo's around the headlights. Nothing more than decoration.

If the stripes were longer the mail slot would be far less of an issue as it would blend into the car. If there were no mail slot then the stripes would be less be less of an issue as the cosmetic clash issues present with the front of the car would be reduced.

What I am saying here is that with stripes you can cover the non functional thing up. With mail slot delete as an option on the SS then the short stripes would not look so short and the car would look better.

I agree that the simulated side vents are ricey too, but they're not as offensive because they're far less conspicuous. I thought that the halos were going to be the DRLs, but even if not, they're not completely useless; they still increase your visibility to others.

I say, put the mail slot to use. Here's some ideas:
- Put a KITT kit in it (and I wouldn't be surprised if someone sells them, prefabricated and ready to install)
- Park it in front of your front door and tell the mailman to deliver to that mail slot
- Install a Nintendo in the car, and you can insert the game cartridge right in the slot
- I suppose if you're one of these guys you could line it with fake skin and paint lips (either kind) on it...

Edit: The link is non-offensive, it's a news article about the people with their offensive fetish but shows no explicit pictures and uses no explicit words.

Ah man, that is sick! You know I'd rather not even know freaks like that exist, but thanks, Cow, for bringing it to our attention. And I'm not even gonna ask how you found that article....what type search you might have been doing.
Hey, but I do like the Kitt kit idea though....unless it's too ricey....maybe?

Not half as ricey as a fake scoop.
