The downsides to forced induction.
So I've been mulling over the idea of going forced induction on my car. Seen alot of talk about turbo vs super charger but not alot that talk about the downside.
So the question is what are the downsides to each?? Thanks for the input Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2 |

You will need to but tires more often......will get dirty looks from V8 guys you beat, and of course there is the noise if you like your car quiet.
Not alot else .......

I've heard a rumor that going for long drives would not be good for the car due to the extra heat. My though was that isn't that the point of the intercooler? Bc my car is my DD so this would b a bad thing lol.

Im about to take the plunge but it seems right now that mainly its just getting the tune dialed in so there's no issues with the MAF or the fuel pump. And you'll need to pay a little closer to your car's oil and fluid levels.
With a turbo you really should let things cool down before you shut it off and there's a few more steps in upkeep. With SC, typically doesn't make as much boost as turbo. With either, kiss your factory warranty goodbye if you still have one. However you can still buy a warranty for your FI'd Camaro through a 3rd party warranty service. |

^ can you give me some info on that warranty? i would love to have that to have my back safety lol.
what i wanna see which one last longer. i havent really seen any CRAZY speedocam video which makes me like meh. and to a person like me that doesnt really hit that track i could careless about timeslips..if anyone knows me lingo...20 , 40 ,60 ,80 roll let me know and lock it up. im going to be honest i dont know if my car is messed up from factory but im N.a with just intake , exhaust , tune , and i snapped the driveshaft ? somehow making a turn lol. honestly i would like to build the car suspension to make it sure its safety. but guys im going to be REALLY honest..what kills me...we are hitting 400 hp on a meh. i got scared when CJ blew his motor on 505hp meth kit'ed. and then..i blew my motor at 38k due to idunno some 3.6l motor issues. |

Well, this technology is fairly new for GM, Ford and Dodge. The mainstay of their performance cars has been older technology with high displacement. I think it is pretty amazing that Tracy and I build a setup (as opposed doing what others had done many times before) in less than a week and were making about 350 rwhp on low boost and even took it to the track. If you aren't the adventure type, then just be patient while we work out all the issues. If you like a challenge, join in and help make progress.

Yes, to make big power they have to use an aftermarket pump. And remember, those things come from the factory with a turbo. Our cars are NA and we are having to fab everything to make them work.

Do a google search on "after market warranty" and you will find a ton, but as jak states...make sure to specify super charged.
Also, jlauber, that rumor would have been true before intercoolers back in the 60's and 70's, but every auto manufacturer today offers super charged and/or turbo charged. And here is a dyno graph on Gretchens still not at full boost. Gretchen & I accomplished in less than one week what others had failed to do in months prior.:

Yeah, we are probably at the limits for what the crank can take now. Rhino and Vince are busting there butts to give me a broad power curve without going over 500. It has proved tough now that we have all this fuel at our disposal. They are being very careful how the proceed at this point. I think it safe to say we can have as much power as we want, we just want to make sure we use it wisely.

Way to go Derrick. We are going to have to wait until tomorrow for Vince as the site shows they are closed today. But I have the intake pipes ready to roll.
