Installed mine a few weeks ago (34,000 miles) and have changed the fluid 4 times since. After 1 week the new fluid is amber. How long should the fluid stay clear? Did I not flush it out enough yet?

I change mine with every oil change. If you track the car, you should change it much more often. Normal brake fluids are hygroscopic, and absorb moisture from the air, which creates that amber color you see. Its not something that you can prevent unless you move to a Dot5 or other silicone based brake fluids. Its not something that will be harmful either unless you go long periods of time without changing it.

I change it via a 2-3 suck out/refills of the reservoir as soon as the clutch pedal starts creaking when I depress it (clearly heard with engine off). About every oil change. I have had it now for about 20K miles and I only get a minor residue of clutch dust now. Mostly, the fluid seems to lose its properties.

It's been awhile since this thread I just now stumbled upon it. How did you get the hose off the master cylinder I can barely reach it and the clamp is facing downwards and to the back a bit so I can't get long reach pliers on it. Mick |

Have not been on this topic again till now. I done this on my 2011 LS and now last week on my new 2014 SS. I just reached down with a pair of gloves on and pulled the clamp forward enough to get a pair of pliers on it to slide it off the hose. Make sure you put a towel underneath just incase some brake fluid drips after pulling off the hose. There is a video on YouTube about it.

OK, knowing that some of the shifting and clutch return problems are caused by heat boiling the fluid, I found this link https://www.lelandwest.com/brake-flu...ison-chart.cfm
Someone may have posted this on a previous page so forgive me if it was. Some of these have boiling points over 500F and the chart has links for where to purchase. Every time my clutch has failed to return the pedal it has been high RPM shifts which would lead me to believe the header heat was causing the problem. Can't hurt to go to higher boiling point fluid.
